"Airplanes in the Night Sky" is the 18th episode of Battle for Dream Island Again, the 43rd episode in-universe and the 90th episode overall. It was released on March 5, 2025, at 4:19:36 PM (GMT-08:00).
This episode also marks the beginning of the merge after Nickel's elimination.

Plot[]
A wrecking ball hits the Supershop.
The Supershop employees and FriesMart are both trying to convince Pin to have them give her a makeover. The supershop employees try to use Book’s opinions of them to convince Pin, but Book thinks of them negatively (because of her makeover in "Start the Shift"), which doesn’t help them. Fries then threatens Pin with a drill, causing her to choose his store. This offends the supershop employees, and Needle informs them their store is being closed, and sends a wrecking ball toward the Supershop; though the impact is never seen, as the intro plays.
After the intro[]
Fries and Pin are talking about her makeover, and Fries outright says that he isn’t going to do it. He asks if she wants to buy anything and she asks about a drill in his store. He says no and offers her a spoon. Firey interrupts and closes Fries’ shop window on his arms, crushing them, and starting Cake at Stake.
Cake at Stake[]
The new Cake at Stake jingle
After the WTFers sing a beautiful jingle, Firey introduces the new Cake at Stake place. Ice Cube is pointed out to be missing, but mostly no one seems to care. Tennis Ball wins the prize, which is a Disbandment Token. It forces a team to split up and for its members to never work together again. Tennis Ball asks if he can use it on Nickel, but Golf Ball tells him he can’t as he is a solo. The cake at stake this time is... actually steak. W.O.A.H. Bunch and Fries were immune last episode, so they get cake. Fries puts his steak inside himself, turning his fries moldy. Tennis Ball is the first safe, then Book, so Needle and Nickel are in the bottom two. Fries does not want to see Nickel go. Needle asks why not her, to which he replies that she is annoying. Nickel is revealed to be eliminated and makes a speech about how sad it is he’s eliminated (to Tennis Ball’s disagreement,) then proceeding to, likely unintentionally, make Tennis Ball eat his chunk. In the background, Leafy is shown to have been watching.
Pre-challenge[]
W.O.A.H Bunch gets disbanded.
Tennis Ball uses his Disbandment Token on W.O.A.H. Bunch which splits Coiny and Pin to be in solo teams and Fries splits himself from FriesMart – giving Needle a spoon as a token making their shop, which she almost attacks him with out of spite– thus effectively beginning the merge phase, as there are no more proper teams. Ice Cube returns only to say she wants to leave the place. Pencil eagerly agrees, expressing how much she despises being in the WTF and how she’s been waiting for the chance to leave for what feels like forever. She urges everyone to leave, and Ruby, Ice Cube, Firey, and Gelatin agree, coming along with Pencil. Tennis Ball mentions that the highway to exit Yoyleland is gone, however Fries uses his shop as a "Scooper Van" and most of the cast boards on it. Golf Ball tells them why they shouldn’t go and stay here, to which they ignore. Nickel, Rocky, Bomby and Yellow Face decide to stay with her, to which Golf Ball almost considers joining them, but before she can, Pencil gets Fries to turn on the "Scooper Van". Everyone that boarded arrives on some faraway flatlands with lighthouses.
Challenge[]
Coiny spins the wheel and the challenge is revealed to be "light up the night sky". Gelatin elaborates, explaining that whichever contestant lights up all 3 of their lights first – 1 light on each of 3 beacons – wins. As soon as the challenge begins, Coiny pushes everyone and goes to one of the beacons, the Lighthouse. Tennis Ball wants everyone to team up and stop Coiny, but Fries disagrees and goes to the satellite tower. Coiny turns on his first light, and kicks Tennis Ball down the stairs before he could get up. Pin yells at Coiny to not trip her, to which Coiny clarifies that he wasn’t planning to.
Book, Needle and soon Coiny head to the satellite tower. Climbing up its ladder, Book says that she wants to take down Fries, but he hears that, so he throws one of his moldy fries at Book in response. Book then rips out one of her pages and tries to throw it up, but misses. Fries laughs at her and turns on his light, but Book and Needle are almost at the top. In response, Fries jumps off the edge and knocks Book off the ladder, narrowly missing Needle. Coiny finally reaches the base of the tower while Fries runs off to the Lighthouse. Pin finally gets to the top of the light house, and turns on her light. Soon, so does Tennis Ball, panting. However, he then falls down the stairs and starts tumbling towards Pin, who starts running from Tennis Ball. Meanwhile, Fries starts running up the stairs, but then also gets knocked down the stairs by Tennis Ball.
Needle makes it to the top of the Satellite Tower and turns on her beacon, and goes back down. Firey tells everyone that everyone has 1 beacon on (besides Book). Needle almost hits Coiny and Book whilst sliding down the tower, but misses both. Needle wants to go to the Lighthouse where Pin, Fries, and Tennis Ball are tumbling down the stairs. Pin and Fries escape, the latter closing the door on Tennis Ball, causing him to bounce like crazy in there causing him to fly off. Coiny uses a loudspeaker to say that he’s winning with 2 out of 3 beacons, Book also makes it up and tells Coiny to update on her status. Tennis Ball lands on Book making her fall off. Coiny says Book is doing horribly. Tennis Ball turns on his light, they go back down, Tennis Ball landing face first and Coiny going for his third light.
"Huh... winning for myself..."
Needle uses the elevator to get to the top of the Watchtower and turns on her second beacon, Needle realizes she's winning for herself, and stares at a view of the flatlands smiling. Coiny asks Needle if she can bring the elevator down and she goes down. Coiny thanks Needle and explains that he is about to win, referring to her bring down the elevator as an act of sacrifice. Needle is done with sacrifices and throws Coiny away, before running for the lighthouse stairs. Fries turns on his beacon on top of the Lighthouse and sees Needle coming up the stairs. Realizing that this is Needle's last beacon, Fries throws a fry down the stairs and hits Needle, knocking her to the bottom, Then she goes back up. Coiny, rolling away causes Tennis Ball to trip and sends him rolling into the Watchtower elevator, and goes into the elevator which then he goes up.
Pin finds Book on the ground at the base of the Satellite Tower and chastises her for her lack of spatial awareness, not realizing that Book is hanging onto her battery as she walks up to the top of the tower. Needle dances up the Lighthouse stairs, perfectly dodging Fries's fries. At the top, Fries continues throwing his fries at Needle and soon runs out of fry ammo. He hits her with the steak he got from Cake at Stake, Needle is furious and Fries finds a shovel, using it to hit her multiple times and embeds her into the Lighthouse. He makes the mistake of calling her "Needy" and gets hit off the Lighthouse, killing him.
Book climbs away from Pin.
Pin says that she feels ten times heavier than usual, which Book responds that she isn't that heavy, revealing her presence to Pin. Pin is still angry about being refused to swing with Ice Cube but Book wants to move past it. Pin tries to use her garbage disposal, which Book dodges. Back in Yoyleland, Fries recovers himself at the HPRC and runs through the tunnel to the new area. He goes to the Watchtower and finds Coiny waiting for the elevator, Tennis Ball is finally at the top and about to turn on his beacon. At the Satellite Tower, Book turns on her first beacon and jumps to avoid the spoon Pin spits at her. She accidently turns off Tennis Ball's beacon. Tennis Ball sees and complains to the hosts. Pencil responds that no one said turning off other people's beacon was forbidden. Pin turns off everyone's beacons on the Satellite Tower and turns her on. Tennis Ball responds by turning off Needle's beacon and turns his on. On the Lighthouse, Needle turns off everyone's beacon and turns her on. Pin descends the Satellite Tower as Book turns Pin's beacon off and her beacon on. Now everyone is climbing towers, turning each other's beacons off and on.
The mergers planning
Tennis Ball thinks that everyone should not turn off each other's lights and Fries disagrees. Everyone comes up with a plan to win the challenge (Tennis Ball will stop everyone from turning off his beacon; Needle will try to run faster; Book will stop everyone from going up the tower, Coiny will sabatoge the other players' beacons, and Fries and Pin will kill everyone). Needle rushes down the stairs and goes to the watchtower and Fries uses his shovel and kills her. Pencil is sad about it; Ice Cube complains that she’s not a FreeSmarter but Pencil reminds that Ice Cube herself is not a FreeSmarter. Tennis Ball says that he’s not scared of Fries, but Fries goes after him and he screams, Pin says that she could help kill Tennis Ball too. Book sees them at the top of the satellite tower, she then takes down the ladder, and kills Fries, Book says that she didn’t mean to kill anybody, but Pin reminds her that she can’t get down. Tennis Ball is glad that Fries is dead before Pin ignites him with one of her rockets, and tennis ball tells her "This is why no one likes you anymore", before turning into a pile of ashes, but leaving nickel's triangle sitting on them.
"Activate WHEEL FORMATION!"
Firey tells Gelatin to recover Tennis Ball, which he does using his laser gun. Fries recovers himself again but gets killed by the gun, the lasers recover Tennis Ball, and Fries recovers himself again, Fries goes through the pit, while Tennis Ball get carried by Gelatin’s grappling hook, Pencil realizes that they're interfering with the challenge, and Ruby reminds her that it’s Golf Ball who told her that. The FreeSmarters use wheel formation to recover Needle.
Book uses her pages to make a paper airplane. Coiny sees that the elevator is there and goes in it, Fries realizes that it’s the only tower with his beacon on, he quickly goes to the elevator and then they fight, they get to the top and still fight, they realize that Book is going to win so they use Fries’s fries to turn off her beacon, then they go back to fighting, Coiny uses a pole and Fries uses his fries, but they miss, since the pole is missing the roof lands on Fries, so then he removes Fries’s light with his.
The FreeSmarters finally get to Yoyleland and recover Needle, and Fries yet again recovers himself. Ruby tells him that the reason he could revive himself is because of the Yoylelite, similar to how Ruby recovered herself in "Catch These Hands". Fries goes back through the tunnel. Meanwhile, Needle asks the FreeSmarters why they recovered her, since she wasn't a full member, which Ruby replies that she was "totally awesome!". Pencil tells Needle, who is touched by their kindness, that they need to get back and use top formation to get back. Meanwhile, Tennis Ball doesn’t want to go up the stairs. Pin calls him needy, which Needle slaps her for, pushing Pin into Tennis Ball and Tennis Ball is pushed into the tower. The impact was so powerful Tennis Ball goes all the way up the stairs. He flicks on his light, locks his lever, and tapes everyone’s other lights so they'd all go up if one is pulled.
Book crashes into the lighthouse and makes Tennis Ball fall, who realizes what he has done. She turns on everyone’s lights, Coiny gets down from the elevator and realizes this, so he only has 1 left to go. Pin walking up the stairs but gets kicked down by Tennis Ball, Fries is at the bottom and dies with Pin, Tennis Ball survives though. Coiny wants someone to recover Pin but nobody wants to, so he does himself.
Tennis Ball wants to team up with Needle, but she wants to play alone so she pushes him. Tennis Ball uses Gelatin grappling hook to use it on Needle, she gets stuck at the top of the lighthouse, and Tennis Ball goes up the elevator. Book tries to make another airplane, but she notices Needle.
Coiny recovers Pin, and Fries recovers himself again, Coiny uses Pin’s flammable rockets to get back. Tennis Ball turns on his and turns off Coiny’s, he then uses Nickel’s chunk and the wires to shock whoever touches their light.
Needle goes back to the other towers. Book wants to help her but she doesn’t want any help. She lands at the watch tower and Tennis Ball apologizes, goes back down the elevator, and leaves. Pin, Coiny, and Fries get into the elevator. Tennis Ball climbs up the satellite tower. They make it to the top, Fries asks Needle why she’s different. Coiny gets shocked by the wires, Tennis Ball tells him what happened. Coiny moves his lights because of that, so TB can’t win. Pin uses her electricity to turn on everyone’s lights, so everyone has 2 out of 3 beams lighted.
Coiny and Pin quickly use the elevator. Book offers Fries and Needle, if they need a lift while Book is flying with wings. Fries doesn’t want to and puts Tennis Ball’s light at Book, so she can’t see, but she flies into the satellite tower. Fries uses the grappling hook on Needle and throws it to the tower, he swings there but crashes to the ground and dies. Coiny and Pin start climbing. Fries recovers himself again, and throws the drill at them. It makes the whole tower fall to the left, so it’s easier to climb, Fries quickly gets on the tower.
Tennis Ball runs over Needle and Book unties and gives the grappling hook to her. Needle uses it on Tennis Ball but it knocks both of them down. Pin dodges but Coiny is stuck with them. Coiny is hanging on for his life, calling for Pin, but she betrays him and rolls away. As Coiny desperately tries to tell Pin that's he's the reason why she was recovered and how she got her face back, Fries un-grasps Coiny's hand and he, Needle, and Tennis Ball fall down into the forest with Coiny telling Pin that he dug to the center of the earth for her.
Pin shreds Book
Fries fires another drill at Pin, but she catches it, "compliments" him and uses it as her point. She ignites him with her flammable rockets, killing Fries. Book finally makes it to the top and is about to pull the final lever, but then gets shredded by Pin into pieces, causing Book to scream in agony and eventually dies in the process. Pin turns on her last light and wins immunity, ending the challenge.
Stinger[]
Nickel, Bomby, Yellow Face, and Rocky sing and goof around in the WTF, annoying Golf Ball. In the distance, Leafy gazes on them angrily before her face turns wistful.

- This is the third season, after BFDI (in "A Leg Up in the Race") and BFB (in "The Game Has Changed"), to reach the merge phase. As such, this episode is the first since "B.F.B. = Back From Beginning" to not be a team challenge.
- This episode makes BFDIA the first season, both chronologically and by release date, to have the contestants choose to merge on their own rather than having the host(s) forcefully merge them.
- This is the first BFDIA episode to not be written or directed by either of the Huang twins.

- Coiny mentions his alliance with Pin as he falls into the trees below him, as well as digging to the center of the earth and getting her face back for her.

- In the shot of the contestants reacting to Pin turning off their beacons on the radio tower and turning hers on, Needle raises her hand just like she did in "Spore Day".

- Needle's line "You're on!" is a possible reference to the TPOT episode "What's Up Bell's String?".
- When Fries sees Coiny about to sabotage one of his beacons (and later when he notices everyone climbing the final watchtower), he deems both moments unacceptable. This is a reference to one of his lines from "Spore Day".
- Fries also chases Tennis Ball the same way he and Coiny did in that episode.
- When FreeSmart enters top formation, Pencil's pose, the font, and color of the text is a reference to "Get in the Van," when FreeSmart was formed as a team.
- Tennis Ball’s scream from "Lofty" is reused when Book’s plane knocks him downstairs.
- Pin's scream from "Bridge Crossing" is also reused when she gets jumpscared by Tennis Ball.
- Fries running from the recovery center to the towers while shouting randomly is a callback to "Taste the Sweetness".
- The contestants walking quickly away from the Cake at Stake place is a reference to "Get in the Van".
- Pin wanting some extra paprika on her steak references a line she said in "Spore Day" when Ruby got eliminated. Her line "Not as supercharged as me" is also similar to another line she said in that episode.
- Fries' line "Woah! That's crazy!" is a variation of Pin's line "What? That's crazy!" from "Insectophobe's Nightmare". the line was also used by Marker in "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life" .
- Book using her crumbled page to retaliate when Fries throws a fry at her is a reference to "Yeah, Who? I Wanna Know".
- Needle's line "Help me!" is recycled from "No More Snow!"
- Needle saying "Tennis Ball, you villain!" could be a callback to the previous episode.

- Yellow Face saying they’re going to have so much fun in the WTF may possibly be a reference to "You Know Those Buttons Don't Do Anything, Right?", where he says the same thing about his team.
- After Pencil tells Pin that Book is the next one safe, they argue in the same manner as the latter and Match in Sweet Tooth ("Yeah!", "Hey!")
Cultural references[]
- The title of this episode is a reference to the song "Airplanes" by B.o.B. and Hayley Williams, which was associated with a ship between Mordecai from Regular Show and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

- The evil face painted on the wrecking ball closely resembles that of Banzai Bill, an enemy from the Super Mario games. It also slightly resembles a Chain Chomp, another enemy from the same series.
- The sound effect for activating the beacons coupled with Gelatin saying the challenge is to "light up the night" could be referencing the game ULTRAKILL, by Arsi "Hakita" Patala, specifically the level "7-2: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT". The beacon sounds can be heard multiple times throughout ULTRAKILL.

- When Fries and Tennis Ball are getting recovered, the text on the HPRC is bolder than usual.
- At 0:39, the outline of one half of Book's ripped cover has only 1 tone despite being split down the middle.
- At 6:02, Rocky's face after barfing appears to be hand-drawn. This may be an oversight since the animation was re-used from TPOT.
- The moon constantly changes positions from its original top left corner seen at 6:33, and it even becomes transparent in some scenes, like when FreeSmart activates Wheel Formation.
- The activated beacons, which are described as "So bright, they light up the night", also become transparent in some scenes.
- At 7:56, Fries' broken asset is mirrored, causing his left eye to disappear and his right eye to reappear. This is fixed at 8:03 in the same shot.
- The hole that is used to transport between the two islands is in different locations from its original spot multiple times.
- At 16:15, the rope of the grappling hook disappears when Gelatin and Firey cheer after retrieving Tennis Ball, despite the hook still being attached to him.
- At 19:15, the tape breaks after Book flicks the levers.
- At 20:16, Tennis Ball's leg is detached from the end of the screen.
