— Announcer, various occasions in Battle for Dream Island

Announcer, often referred to as the Speaker Box, is the host of both Battle for Dream Island and Battle for Dream Island Elsewhere and serves as an antagonist in Battle for BFB. He was also the secret host and chairman in Battle for Dream Island Again for the first five episodes.

In Battle for Dream Island, Announcer appears as a host offering Dream Island to 20 contestants, setting up the teams, creating the challenges, and sending the eliminated contestants into the Tiny Loser Chamber. In "Insectophobe's Nightmare", Announcer split the Squashy Grapes into the new team Another Name and then in "A Leg Up in the Race" Announcer dissolved the teams to have the contestants compete for individual immunity. In "Don't Pierce My Flesh" Announcer was killed and didn't host until he was recovered in "Hurtful!". In the end, the show was deemed a financial failure by the other speaker boxes, so Announcer and the others retreated into space, and Announcer sold Dream Island to Leafy.

In Battle for Dream Island Again, Announcer is initially unseen throughout the season outside of cameo appearances throughout BFDIA 5. In "The Long-lost Yoyle City" Announcer is briefly seen with the other contestants on the summit of Yoyle Mountain and in "Well Rested" Announcer convinces Firey Speaker Box to eat yoyleberries to hide his existence from the contestants. In "SOS (Save Our Show)", Announcer reveals that he was the one that wrote the BFDI Game Rules, set up the challenge and prize wheels, and created the Hand-powered Recovery Center and Puffball Speaker Box and that he quit the show after the 6th episode because of how much money he had lost during the season.

In Battle for BFB, after 8 years of absence, Announcer returns in "B.F.B. = Back From Beginning" to retake the show and steal the prize from Four and X, culminating with him attempting to get the show cancelled in "SOS (Save Our Show)". In "Chapter Complete", Announcer tries to outright steal the prize from Flower until Flower gives up the prize to him and Announcer apologises for attempting to cancel the season. He is seen at the end of the episode discussing the idea of a Season 6 along with Four, X, and Purple Face.

In Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two, Announcer has only shown up physically in two episodes thus far. In "Seasonal Shift", Announcer briefly appears as a temporary host as a result of a shift in the timeline. In "BFB 31", It is shown that during the events between "Chapter Complete" and "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life" that Announcer and Balloony took off into outer space using an Announcer Transportation Device after the latter accidentally climbs inside of it.

In Battle For Dream Island Elsewhere, Announcer appears as a host again, offering Dream Island Elsewhere which is a wasteland with no restaurants and dangerous robots to anyone who wins the season.

Appearance[]

Announcer appears to be a speaker box. His cone and gasket are light grey, and his main body is dark grey.

Changes[]

Early BFDI

  • Announcer's corners are rounded.

BFDI 23+

  • Announcer's rounded corners are now pointy.
  • Announcer gets damaged by Flower.

BFDIA 5c+

  • Announcer is repaired.

Personality[]

Announcer seems to be mature and reserved, often keeping calm and collected, partially because he is a robot. Despite his good nature, he does have moments of being unfair towards others, like not caring that he sold Dream Island to Leafy, and even hides this information from Bubble when she asks about it.

He's also shown to have a sense of humor when it's at the contestants' expense. For example, he laughed before dropping water balloons on the contestants in the ladder race. He laughed at Woody when he was drowning in bread. He bought the BFDI finalists (and himself) recovery centers just so that he could kill them repeatedly. According to the "Battle for Dream Island: Official Character Guide", Announcer calls Needle "Needy" on purpose, despite knowing she despises it when someone calls her that nickname.

Announcer also has a more insidious side to him. In "Insectophobe's Nightmare 2", he accidentally revealed that he was responsible for the bugs in front of Bubble, who began to question him angrily. In response, he popped her, stating that he must keep his secrets. This side of him is seen again in "B.F.B. = Back From Beginning" when Taco finds out that Announcer was spending the show's budget quite recklessly. She announces that she will tell X, and Announcer immediately obliterates her with the Emergency Button, and he is satisfied with her death.

Adding on to this insidious side is Announcer's greed that becomes even more apparent in "SOS (Save Our Show)". He intentionally exploited the show’s budget to have the entire series erased and forgotten just to keep the BFDI to himself. When he relays this information to Taco, he shows little, if any, remorse for his actions. The conversation paints him as one of the darkest and most influential characters of the entire series; he shows the ability to almost "destroy" the series.

Furthermore, in Battle for BFB, once he makes his return, he seems to show a more cynical side to his personality. While minor, he apologises for cancelling BFDI in "Insectophobe's Nightmare 2", but seems to mock BFB's cancellation in "SOS (Save Our Show)". This could be because he didn't have as much attachment to the show as he did with BFDI, but it could be argued that it is still his show in some way. In some parts of BFDI, he does tend to mock the contestants, such as in "A Leg Up In The Race", where he laughs whilst dropping water balloons on the climbing contestants (injuring Firey) and "Half a Loaf Is Better Than None", where he mocks the contestants who are drowning in the bread loaf contest; but his cynical and aggressive side seems to become a lot more prominent in BFB, such as obliterating Taco in "B.F.B. = Back From Beginning", and being satisfied with her death, as stated above. His insidiousness shows a very large contrast to his actions in BFDI where he was arguably much more forgiving to the contestants.
