"Are You Smarter Than a Snowball?" is the 3rd episode of Battle for Dream Island. It was released on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 6:18:20 AM PST (GMT-8).
In this episode, the contestants must complete a test containing 20 questions to win the challenge with the highest-scoring contestant getting a Win Token. The episode is most likely named after Snowball's abysmal performance on the test.

The Announcer immediately begins the episode by starting Cake at Stake. Firey immediately criticizes it questioning that they were doing Cake at Stake already. The former replies by stating, "Why not?" before then mentioning that he has to get Pen & Woody & Eraser & Golf Ball & Leafy & Coiny & Rocky & Match & Spongy & Tennis Ball & Blocky & Pencil & Pin & Snowball & Bubble. He then proceeds to get them out of the Failers' Waiting Room via net and begins Cake at Stake.
Cake at Stake[]
Announcer announces Cake at Stake. The screen that was used to count votes read just 2 at first, but Announcer says it is not the right vote count. Suddenly, the digit 1 appears left of the 2, indicating that there were 12 votes in total, with the Announcer saying the tens digit is used, but he was not sure if it would work. The Announcer pans over to the Squishy Cherries gathered in a circle and gives out a Key Lime Pie as the cake for this episode, who states that there will be only 9 slices, which Pin and Match disliked, Match stating if they could change the cake. The Announcer simply responds stating that they couldn't change it and they can simply not eat it.
The others talk about the cake they want, with Match and Firey wanting a chocolate cake, Pencil agreeing and also wanting ice cream cake, to which Bubble mentions that it's so delish, before the Announcer shushes everyone to "get on with it". He then reminds everyone that if they do not get a slice of pie, they get eliminated. When the Announcer asks Pin if she wants to use her Win Token, Pin decides not to use her Win Token, stating that there was nothing she ever did that was mean that would make people want to vote her. A montage of previous episodes contradicting her statement are then shown. Announcer then announces who got 0 votes. Eraser is called out as the first one being safe. Match looks disgustingly at Eraser while he eats his cake, leading him to respond, "What? All cake is good cake". The Announcer mentions that all the girls (Bubble, Pencil, and Pin) except Match are safe with zero votes. Hearing this, Match yells "Hey!" to him. When Pin gets her piece of key lime pie, she gives it to Pen. The Announcer then mentions that the remaining 6 contestants had at least one vote. Pen receives 1 vote as Announcer reveals he is very boring, according to a voter, and gets another piece of key lime pie; along with Firey, whom his gets burnt from entering his flames. At the final 4, Announcer reassures Match not to worry as she is safe with 1 vote. Now it is down to Blocky, Spongy and Woody. He then announces who else is safe. The next person safe got 2 votes. As he was about to announce who was safe, Pen clears out that it's got to be Blocky, and the Announcer says "uh, sure, yeah, Blocky". While Spongy is called next, Woody freaks out, but it is revealed that Spongy is eliminated at 4 votes, and Woody becomes relieved. The Announcer then mentions that they'll have to send him to the TLC and decides to use the Sender Scoop Thrower despite not testing it yet. The Sender Scoop Thrower picks up Spongy and throws him, but because of his weight, it only throws him far enough to fall on top of Bubble, popping her. The intro then plays.

Contest[]
Announcer then introduces the next contest as a "test of memory and basic knowledge" explaining that the test has 20 questions and that the team with the highest total mark wins, and the highest-scoring player will receive a Win Token. He also mentions to the Squashy Grapes that the Ice Cube Recovery Center Creator is in progress to re-create Ice Cube (destroyed during the previous episode courtesy of Leafy). The estimated time is taking 30 minutes.
The contest begins. Golf Ball sings to herself while completing the quiz; Pencil gets side-tracked with a pencil that looks like her, with Match agreeing. Snowball comments on the "stupidity" of the test, claiming how was he supposed to know his name. As Pin checks the field (while at the same time not completing her quiz), also confirming Firey and Eraser are doing their tests, she notices that Woody has testophobia. She then kicks him as a punishment. As Announcer sings to himself, Blocky sneakily steals the test answers. Tennis Ball confronts Rocky about his inability to complete the test due to having no arms. He gives no excuse as Golf Ball and himself have learned to write with only their feet. This angers Rocky, so he kicks Tennis Ball. Tennis Ball ridicules Rocky that he thought a tiny kick would do anything, but realizes he could not stop rolling, with Rocky grinning.
Snowball is then shown to still be angry at his test, crushing his pencil with only his fist in full view of a gasping Pencil. One shard of the pencil speeds through the air and pops Bubble. Leafy notices the ICRCC has 20 minutes remaining and questions "Needy" about whether "non-existent" Ice Cube is mad at her. Needle slaps Leafy for calling her Needy for the first time but then says "no". Match then asks how Pencil is doing on the test, with her responding "Just drew a little doodle!". In a cutscene, a long and possibly microscopic doodle is shown, indicating Pencil continuously holding herself, with a few other doodles (and a disgusting hair strand). A cut back to Woody shows him falling into the ground from Pin's kick, barely missing Coiny who eventually falls into the hole as well. Firey is gleeful and laughs at their misfortune.
Meanwhile, Blocky shows the test answers to Pen and Eraser, and Eraser asks for a high-five. Blocky does so but accidentally hits Eraser too hard. Pen then rejects his high-five, with Eraser falling into Woody's hole. Match introduces her mini-Match to Pencil and decide to pretend they're themselves. Match also wants to play Spongy Cake. As they're playing, Pencil tries to get Match's attention that it wasn't a good idea. However, because Match didn't listen, this causes the two toys to set fire to both of the tests, angering Pencil.
Tennis Ball is seen rolling down the hill at this point, rolling into the fire, launching into the air, and landing in Woody's hole, but get stuck. Pin comes to him to ensure his whole body goes in. Blocky has concerns about the fire due to his composition of wood.
Just then, the ICRCC finishes, and Ice Cube walks out of the Ice Cube Recovery Center that was created, stating that it's great to be alive. Seconds later, Blocky throws her into the fire. After no success, Blocky tosses a continuously reproduced Ice Cube four times into the fire. Bubble then greets Match and Pencil as "guys", causing Match to slap and pop her. Pencil is shocked at this, but Bubble demonstrates how simple it is to kill her in three steps. She kills herself before she can announce the third step using Needle, leading Pencil to realize that Bubble is so dumb she can't count to three and that she was suicidal. Blocky continues to hold the ICRC over the fire. Leafy, calls on Needle when she gets back, and then their tests run on fire.
Soon, it begins to rain, first noticed by Pin when a raindrop fell on her, causing Firey to hide in a rain shelter, thinking that there was a Teardrop family reunion. The fire is put out, and Pen rejoices. Blocky redirects their attention to copying the answers for the tests, with Pen calling it risky. Pencil and Match decide to rip up Bubble's test paper due to her stupidity, and knowing she would fail. Snowball rips up his test paper in anger. Golf Ball finishes the test, and then she yells at Rocky for not starting his test, asking if he didn't know how to write. Announcer stops the rain and says that the time's up. He asks for the test papers and wonders why he didn't get the remaining papers from Needle, Woody, Firey, Leafy, Match, Pencil, Bubble, Tennis Ball, Coiny, Eraser, Ice Cube and Snowball but decides to display the scores of the ones who submitted their tests, showing the Squishy Cherries winning at 54 correct answers and the Squashy Grapes losing at 34 correct answers. Announcer also points out Squishy Cherries got exactly 20 Points less that the Squashy Grapes. Golf Ball notices that Rocky got 0 due to him doing nothing and gets angry at him. Announcer decides to double-check the answers, but notices the answers are gone. He scans his surroundings and notices that Pen and Blocky have stolen the test answers and cheated. He sets both of their scores to zero, changing the winners of the contest from the Cherries to the Grapes, also inverting the 20-point difference. Announcer then gives Golf Ball a Win Token, and putting the remaining Cherries up for elimination the second time in a row.
Match mentions that the last day to vote is on March 10th, and Episode 4 will be released on April 1st, 2010.
Stinger[]
Tennis Ball, Eraser, Coiny, and Woody are still stuck in the hole. Tennis Ball then says that he has to go to the bathroom.

- Spongy, Rocky, and Coiny appear; however, they don't speak, although Coiny did make a yelping sound and Rocky made a squeaking noise, however it is unknown who/where the sound is from.
Trivia[]
- This is the final episode in which Michael Huang voices Tennis Ball, who is voiced by Cary Huang for the rest of the franchise.
- The Cake at Stake intro was altered in this episode. There no longer is a fade and the word "at" changed from pink to green. This version of the Cake at Stake intro was used in every subsequent episode up until episode 10.
- Pin and Match are revealed to dislike key lime pie, possibly because it's sour.
- This episode reveals that Woody has testophobia, which is a fear of taking tests.
- The questions shown to be on the test are as follows:
- If you don't do want to eat, how long can you survive? Do you know? I don't think you do, so you shall fail, ha-ha.
- Do you like tennis balls? Also, please do not doodle on this test. Just don't do it. So yeah, answer.
- The answer for both questions were revealed by Leafy in "Hurtful!".
- Pencil's doodle includes real objects of three hair follicles, and a blood platelet; along with a drawing of a virus, possibly joking with the fact that the doodles got very small.
- Pencil mentions she likes chocolate in her doodle.
- She also writes that "GB is mean", "Spongy is SO fat", "Yay its match my bff", "bubble is a friend", and that she doesn't want to start the test.
- Also, there is a drawing called "Look, an atom!"
- She also writes that she likes going to Htwins.net.
- She also writes "do you like BROWN?" The word brown is brown.
- This is the 1st of the 8 episodes to mention a character in the title, in this case, it's Snowball. The later episodes to mention a contestant occur 3 seasons later, which are "Getting Teardrop to Talk", "Fortunate Ben", "Four Goes Too Far", "This Episode Is About Basketball", "The Four is Lava", "The Escape from Four", and "X Marks the Spot".
- This episode and "X Marks the Spot" are the only episodes where rain appears from the sky.
- A pre-drawing of a stick figure resembling David is featured in the doodle.
- There are 23 pencils in Pencil's doodle.
- Teardrop is not seen even once throughout the entire episode, despite that she managed to complete the test.
- However, she is mentioned twice, as follows:
- 1st: by Firey after he realized that it's raining and saying that it's a "Teardrop Family Reunion".
- 2nd: indirectly by the TV screen while displaying the total scores.
- However, she is mentioned twice, as follows:
- Match is the first contestant to say the "Voting is open till" line at the end of the episode.
- This marks the first time someone calls Needle "Needy". This happened when Leafy asked "Needy" if non-existent Ice Cube or "Icy" was mad at her. Since Leafy referred to her as "Needy", Needle slapped her.
- This is the first time Bubble pops herself, implying the first time someone commits suicide on the show.
- The ICRCC said in the status:
- 1st Time: "NOTHING, IDLE, WATCHING, AMERICAN, IDOL, WAITING, NOT SURE, PREGNANT, WINNING $, SILENT, DISPLAYING, STATUS"
- 2nd Time: "THINKING, BEING A, BRO ICRCC, TO BE, QUOTE, UNQUOTE, "COOL", NOW I AM, SUPPOSEDLY, PRETENDING, TO BE DOING, THE ACT OF"
- 3rd Time: "COULD, YOU, JUST, NOT WATCH, ME WHILE, I DISPLAY, THE STATUS, ACTUALLY, NEVER, MIND, FORGET, IT"
- Blocky's cheating that led to elimination was used in Total Firey Island.
- In the new thumbnail, Snowball has his new body asset.
- This is also the first episode where the original thumbnail doesn't match the current one.
- This episode reveals that objects in the Battle for Dream Island series are capable of using the bathroom, although it does not explain what they do in there. The only other episodes referencing a bathroom are "Paper Towel", "Today's Very Special Episode" and "What Do You Think of Roleplay?".
- Somehow Spongy was launched to the TLC despite the Sender Scoop Thrower being too weak to get him there.
- The storyboard for this episode was uploaded to YouTube on August 4th, 2018.
Continuity references[]
- The Announcer scoops up the contestants who're still stuck in the failures' waiting room.
- When Pin claims that she can't think of anything mean she's done to deserve getting voted for, clips of her mean acts from "Take the Plunge/Part 1" and "Take the Plunge/Part 2" are shown.
- Both Golf Ball's singing while taking the test and the Announcer's humming while not looking at the test answers are references to Four's humming at the beginning of "X Finds Out His Value".
- An Ice Cube Recovery Center Creator slowly creates an Ice Cube Recovery Center after her death in the last episode.
- Leafy also asks Needle if she thinks dead Ice Cube is mad at her for killing her.
- This is the second time Squishy Cherries are up for elimination. The first was "Barriers and Pitfalls".
- The answers to the two test questions shown in the episode are revealed in "Hurtful!".
Cultural references[]
- The episode title is a reference to the game show "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?"
- The message on the ICRCC is "WATCHING, AMERICAN, IDOL".
Goofs[]
- Pencil is over-sized and much larger than Match when she asks how the "teh" (test) is going.
- At the Cake at Stake for the results of Episode 2, when Pin and others talk of hating Key Lime Pie they are on the left side of the "arena". However, once Win Token usage is talked about, Pin and everyone on the left side appear on the right. This occurs again but with the only Pen moving to the left after he receives his second Key Lime Pie (his first one from another contestant).
- When the Announcer is calling up the contestants who are missing, he calls Pen's name twice.
- In the calling of all players at Failers Waiting Room from Episode 2, Announcer verbally calls for Pin, but in the sentences shown, it says Pen, this was fixed with an annotation.
- Woody's number of votes is never revealed (as in every other episode that it was declared last safe), even though it is truly 3 votes.
- Just before Bubble gets slapped and popped by Match, both of her legs are moving at the same time, making her walk like she has a broken leg.
- When Tennis Ball explains that no arms are no excuse, his test and pencil, along with Rocky's are in front of them. But in the next scene, after Rocky gets mad, all that left is only Tennis Ball's pencil.
- When Match says "Let's play Spongy Cake", if you listen closely, you can hear Pencil mimicking her.
- This also occurs after Match says "I got a mini-Match too!", you can hear someone saying "Place!" twice in the background at a very small volume. However, this could be an accident/mistake either by Michael or Cary Huang when recording the lines.
- Ice Cube is inanimate when Blocky holds the ICRC up to the fire.
- The door of the ICRC is also facing the wrong direction.
- When Golf Ball gets mad at Rocky for not knowing how to write, Rocky's pencil is gone.
- When Tennis Ball rolls down after Rocky kicked him, Tennis Ball's right leg was not attached to him.
- When it's raining, the ICRC's door is gone. Possibly due to an animation error.
- After the TV screen displays all the contestants' scores, Rocky's test is still on him even though it has already been collected.
- At the end of the episode, Tennis Ball's line is cut off.
- However, this doesn't happen in the Season 1 compilation jacknjellify uploaded back in 2018.
- Tennis Ball and Rocky's tests are missing when Rocky kicks him.
- At 5:01, Eraser's left arm and a bit of his body goes through the ground when he goes in the hole Woody created.
- Along with this, there was no sound when he hit the bottom of the hole because in the stinger, Woody is at the bottom of the hole.
- Plus, in the stinger, Coiny is facing upwards, even though he fell forwards at 4:45.
- Despite the fact that Firey will die if he comes into contact with water, he did not die during the "Teardrop family reunion".
- At 2:41, grass is still shown for 2 frames before switching over to sky after. This might be due to timing.
Deaths[]
- Bubble gets popped and crushed by Spongy during Cake at Stake.
- Bubble gets popped by a pencil shard.
- Ice Cube is thrown in a fire 12 times by Blocky.
- Bubble gets popped by Match's slap.
- Bubble gets popped by Needle when she tries counting to 3.
