Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two (BFDI:TPOT), also known as simply The Power of Two (TPOT), is the fifth season[1] of the Battle for Dream Island series, being written by Satomi Hinatsu and Kenzie Bryant.
The season is hosted by Two and was announced in "The Escape from Four". The Power of Two consists of forty-one contestants from the original Battle for BFDI (plus two recommended character contestants), while the other fourteen contestants continue battling in Battle for BFB. The prize is Two's power.
The first episode, "You Know Those Buttons Don't Do Anything, Right?", was announced to release on January 9, 2021, according to the stinger in "Uprooting Everything". However, it was delayed a few hours due to glitches of the intro[2] and ended up being released on January 10, 2021.
The intro was made by Coal Bones, RickToons, and Amor Boretto,[3] and the song is called "Gibberish!!".
Overview
Unlike post-split BFB, TPOT will focus to be similar to the pre-split BFB episodes.[4] Likewise, TPOT episodes have higher quality in both animation and writing, but tend to release less frequently, unlike BFB, which tends to have its episodes 3–4 weeks apart.
According to a May 2021 community post on YouTube, Satomi said she and the TPOT crew might work on the shorter and faster episodes starting with TPOT 3 and onwards after TPOT 2.

Trivia

Logo shown on the end of "The Escape from Four"
- The Power of Two was originally not considered early on, and the contestants that weren't in the Final 14 of BFB were going to be permanently killed off and eliminated from the game.[5]
- This is the first season to be named directly after its prize without "battle for" preceding it. It is also called the "Battle for the Power of Two" (or "BFTPOT") by Two in the first episode right before the intro.
- This is the second season to have an announced release date before it started, with IDFB being the first.
- However, TPOT is the only season where everybody knew that the premiere would be a new season (as everybody expected BFDIA 6 to come out originally instead of IDFB).
- The acronym TPOT sounds like "teapot". This was hinted on March 19, 2020 with a picture of X holding a teapot posted on Jacknjellify's Twitter and community page.
- Four to the power of two equals sixteen (Battle for BFDI. ), which jokingly refers to the episode number from
- Kenzie Bryant supposedly came up with the name "TPOT".[6]
- It seems it was also possible that the contestants were able to switch between Battle for BFB and this competition if they wanted to.[7] However, after BFB 17, this idea seems to be scrapped due to no future BFB episodes having any involvement with TPOT contestants. However, Teardrop joined TPOT late, making her the only contestant in both BFB and TPOT.
- This is the first season of the entire series in which neither of the Huang brothers are involved in the writing.
- This season has the second largest cast of contestants at 43, surpassed by BFB's 65.
- X was originally a co-host with Two in TPOT, but he was taken back to BFB in "X Marks the Spot".
- As of TPOT, Pin, Coiny, Ice Cube, Rocky, Tennis Ball, Golf Ball, and Needle will be the only characters who were in every season of BFDI.
- This makes this the first season to not include Firey, Spongy, and Pencil (although Pencil will be making appearances).
- By default, this will be the first season where Spongy isn’t the highest ranking armless contestant.
- Coincidentally, they were also the three contestants put up for elimination in "Reveal Novum" to be eliminated in "Rescission".
- This makes this the first season to not include Firey, Spongy, and Pencil (although Pencil will be making appearances).
- This season has the least number of returning season one contestants at 11.
- This is the first season that lacks a former finalist.
- Saw, Needle, and Ice Cube are the only contestants to begin the season with design changes from BFB:
- Saw has her pink handle, which was first shown in "Return of the Rocket Ship".
- Needle is CGI, due to eating the Photo Cake that Leafy gave her in "Get to the Top in 500 Steps". She became non-CGI again after being hit by a cake in "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life"
- Ice Cube is tiny, due to getting shrunken down in Four's hot soup in "Return of the Rocket Ship". She became big again after dying in "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life"
- It is later revealed that only Saw's design change is permanent and that Ice Cube's and Needle's are just temporary as seen at the end of the TPOT intro.
- David and Dora also still have their changes, but they aren't competing.
- TPOT is the first season to have its debut at the beginning instead of the merge.
- TPOT is also the first season to have two back to back debuts as Teardrop joins in the second episode.
- The logo's font is Wolpe Fanfare.
- Kenzie Bryant has said that, when selecting the season's roster, the BFB team simply selected the contestants they wanted, leaving the rest for TPOT.[8]
- According to Kenzie Bryant's CuriousCat, when questioned about a nonbinary character in TPOT, she refused to comment further due to "spoilers".[9]
- "You Know Those Buttons Don't Do Anything, Right?" would end up introducing two nonbinary characters, those being Winner and Price Tag.
- In celebration of TPOTs release, #tpot became trending on Twitter with the caption, "A new season of the animated YouTube show Battle for Dream Island, titled the [sic] 'The Power of Two,' will be released".[10]
- This is the second season to use votes to save; Battle for BFB was the first.
- This is the second season to allow another contestant to debut due to someone else being absent; Battle for Dream Island Again was the first.
- This is the second season to have the first words spoken by Michael (as Yellow Face, or Four in a recording) instead of Cary, with BFB being the first.
- This is the second season to have a newbie eliminated first, after Battle for Dream Island Again.
- This is the third season to have a female contestant be the first eliminated, after Battle for Dream Island and Battle for BFDI.
- This is the first season to have the first eliminated contestant not be voiced by Michael Huang as he does not voice Pie.
- Some of the contestants reference the season’s name at the end of the intro:
- Clock’s clock hands are in the 2:00 position.
- Price Tag’s face says "P:2".
- TV shows the Utah teapot in reference to the show's acronym. The Utah teapot is a common 3D test model that is an in-joke among the computer graphics community.
- Winner is holding up two fingers.
- The final seconds in the intro reference the intros from Battle for Dream Island to IDFB.
- Even the bassline during that scene sounds reminiscent of the music theme for the first three seasons' intros.
- So far, this is the only season to have a character's name in it (Two).
- Pin, Rocky, and Fries appear to be standing around a grotato plant in the intro.
- This season's intro is the second one to feature its host(s); the first was BFB.
- This season's intro is the 2nd longest intro; the first is BFB 1's with 50 seconds.
- However, if one only counts the intro used for the entire season, then TPOT's intro is indeed the longest.
- The intro is the first in BFDI's history to feature a death: Pie exploding after coming near a fire on Bomby's fuse.
- Everything involving the EXITors will take place in TPOT, despite the EXIT being in Four, who is in BFB.
- BFDI:TPOT currently has the least hosts out of any season, excluding IDFB, having 1.
- BFDI:TPOT is the first season to have a Cake at Stake in its first episode.
- The former contestants who reach the final fifteen in TPOT will be the only contestants who successfully surpass their placement in BFB.
- This is excluding Teardrop, who would have to reach the final 2 to surpass her BFB rank.
- Due to Teardrop being on her own team, TPOT is the second season to have uneven teams after BFDIA.
