Certain articles will have a gallery subpage that will host the majority of relevant images, usually to prevent the main article from becoming to bloated or lengthy.
Henceforth, the term "gallery" will refer to the subpages and not the smaller sections found on articles.
Concerning galleries
Gallery necessity
Galleries are only necessary when the amount of images present becomes overwhelmingly large, and to make the on-article gallery smaller would require the images to be shrunk to an impractical size.
If every image can be reasonably sized and arranged on an article without the article becoming too large, then a subpage is not necessary.
Basic gallery structure
Galleries mainly utilize the <gallery>
tag and the {{GalleryBox}} template at the top of the page. When appropriate, the {{Episode top navigation}} and {{Character top navigation}} templates are used, as well. See MediaWiki's help page here for more insight on galleries and images.
Character gallery structure
Character galleries are structured into three main headings: Assets, Poses, and Scenes.
Assets include the faceless, limbless, and background-transparent images of a character's body.
Poses include images of the character with limbs and a face, as well as any accompanying props or other characters, with a transparent background.
Scenes mostly include still shots and screen captures of frames during an episode that include the character, though other images that don't fit in the other two sections will be included here as well.
For characters who do not have a standard limb or face layout, such as Dora or Roboty, the Poses section may be greatly diminished or absent entirely.
All images are ordered chronologically.
Episode gallery structure
Episode gallery pages lack headings entirely. Exceptions may be made. Images are ordered chronologically.
Episode galleries should not contain every single frame of the episode. Instead, they should display an image for each key point of a scene.
Image necessity
In galleries, images that are considered redundant are consequentially considered unnecessary. For example, an image depicting a scene from an episode that is already depicted in another image, with little to no visual variation, is unnecessary.
Concerning images
Image upload policy
All images uploaded to the wiki must comply with the community standards and follow the rules of the wiki. Violations of these guidelines will result in the immediate removal of the content and may lead to further disciplinary actions, including potential bans from the platform. The following content is prohibited:
Pornography: Any form of sexually explicit material, including nudity or suggestive imagery, is not allowed.
Fetish art: Content depicting or promoting fetish-related themes is forbidden.
Profanity: Images containing any form of profanity, regardless of severity, including in text, captions, or embedded content, are not acceptable.
Gore and violence: Graphic depictions of violence, mutilation, or extreme gore, including realistic portrayals of injury or death, are not permitted.
Antisemitism and hate speech: Any images or symbols that promote antisemitism, racism, homophobia, or other forms of hate speech are prohibited.
Xenophobia and Nazism: Content promoting xenophobia, Nazism, or any ideology associated with extremism or hate is banned.
Extremism: Images that promote or support extremist ideologies, groups, or movements, whether political or religious, are not allowed.
Non-consensual images: Uploading images of individuals without their consent, including but not limited to staff members of *Jacknjellify*, is forbidden. This also includes doxing or sharing personal information through images.
All content must be appropriate for general audiences and contribute positively to the wiki’s purpose. Failure to comply with these rules will result in content removal and appropriate action. For any doubts, users are encouraged to consult the moderators before uploading.
Image quality
Any image added to a page must be of an acceptable quality. While poor quality may be tolerated when the image is necessary, such as in an infobox, poor images of lesser importance, such as screenshots of an episode, will be removed.
Poor image quality can be denoted by compression artifacts, visible UI (such as the YouTube video progress bar, a gradient, or the cursor), sloppy cropping, improperly cropped images, etc.
Fan-made and unofficial images
Images made by people who do not work on BFDI, such as fan art, or images that do not relate to BFDI, such as stills of another show, are prohibited from being used in articles. The term "fanon images" is used to cover both instances.
Captions
Captions for images are preferably formal and descriptive. Therefore, joke or humorous image captions are unwanted. When referring to an episode, use the shorthand, abbreviated form rather than the full episode title (such as BFB 5 instead of "Fortunate Ben"). Captions must be accurate.
Personal images
Images can be uploaded to the wiki that are never meant to appear on any actual article. These images may be posted to userpages, article talks, user talk pages, etc. These images are allowed and are considered personal property. Thus they cannot be replaced by any user other than whomever uploaded that image.
Image replacement
Images intended for the mainspace can be replaced by images of greater quality. For example, an image that depicts a pose that was manually cropped from a background can be replaced by a cleaner image derived from Flash files.
However, replacing an image must not replace the intent or idea that the image is meant to serve. An image of one pose should not be replaced by a completely different pose. If one wished to replace an image on an article such that the idea is changed as well, they must upload their new image under a different file name and change the file that appears on the page.
Image necessity
Off galleries, images are typically seldom used. Images then serve the purpose of acting as evidence or proof to support a claim or description, or they serve the purpose of displaying a topic that would be cumbersome to explain in text.
