14th anniversary wheel cutscene[]

The episode begins with the fourteenth anniversary wheel with all of the current hosts and contestants, including Evil Leafy and Lewis. Suddenly, Fourteen breaks out of the cake and jumps towards the screen, jumpscaring the viewers and presumably attempting to eat their skin just like in Thanks for 2,000,000 Subscribers!, where Fourteen eats Ten's skin.

Prologue[]

The episode starts with Nickel trying to brush off the pink paint from the previous episode. Book greets him and asks about how being pink is nice. Nickel disagrees and says that it can't be scrubbed off. Book tells Nickel that there are advantages of being pink and grabs Ice Cube (or Strawberry Milk Cube). Ice Cube says that she's yummy. Nickel then agrees that there are indeed advantages to being pink. Gelatin runs up to Book, Ice Cube and Nickel about how he dug Ruby's corpse out of his backyard. Book gets angry about showing Ruby's corpse, to which Gelatin says that Book was the one who sold Ruby's corpse for billions of dollars a few months ago. Book then mentions how she's never going to recover from the "smear campaign." Ice Cube says that she misses Ruby, because Ice Cube wanted Ruby to see her Strawberry Milk self.

The scene cuts to the HPRCBIFBOTET. Ruby's hand suddenly came out of the slot and recovers herself fully. Ruby immediately runs to Ice Cube and tries to taste her, which is revealed that Ice Cube isn't strawberry milk, but made of lead paint. Ruby exclaims how Ice Cube doesn't taste like strawberry and then vomits out the lead paint, which moves under the Eiffel Tower. Confused, Book asks how Ruby is alive, as she died in Fries' car crash. She explains that due to the effects of the Yoylite, her spirit remained partially. Book then remarks that Pencil was near the Yoylite too. The scene then pans to the HRPCBIFBOTET, where Pencil's hand comes out of the slot and recovers herself as well. However, the lead vomit under the Eiffel Tower starts to dissolve it from the ground up. Meanwhile, Ruby notices how all the FreeSmart members (except for Match, who is eliminated) are alive for the first time in a while, so she suggests that they should celebrate in the Clubhouse of Awesomeness. Pencil says she loves the Clubhouse of Awesomeness and she'll be sad if the clubhouse is endangered. Book agrees, and confirms that endangerment will never happen. Then, the screen cuts to the Eiffel Tower starting to dissolve into Ruby's lead vomit. Puffball Speaker Box immediately informs FreeSmart that their clubhouse is endangered. Pencil replies by saying "ACK," but Puffball Speaker Box has no time for that as it is Cake at Stake. The same Cake at Stake intro from Meaty is used.

Cake at Stake[]

Cake at Stake takes place in The Clubhouse of Awesomeness. Puffball Speaker Box asks who Lewis (seen in the CaS intro) is, to which she is told he won the lottery in Meaty. Pin asks where Coiny is; Puffball Speaker Box tells her that he is in space, 10 billion miles away, and they do not have the budget to get him back. Pin complains that it is unfair to Coiny, to which Puffball Speaker Box taunts her, saying why she doesn't just grab Coiny back "with her arms." Needle is worried about being eliminated and asks Nickel how he handles the stress, to which he responds that he doesn't know and is scared as well. Meanwhile, Yellow Face is not scared of elimination because of his Win Token Printer. Nickel asks what Win Tokens do. Needle then describes the Win Token's function and tells Nickel that she used it once. With that, Nickel asks Yellow Face for one, but Yellow Face declines because they're all for him and due to the fact Nickel is pink, which is similar to purple. Puffball Speaker Box then announces the winner of the prize, Bomby, who spins the prize wheel. The prize chosen was to switch the vocal cords of two team members. He then decides to switch Coiny's and Needle's so the team can hear more of Coiny's voice down on Earth.

In space, Coiny is still being flown away inside the cash register, about to start his account for the sixtieth day inside the cash register, until he notices his voice sounds like Needle, complaining that nothing in his life makes any sense.

Back on Earth, Puffball Speaker Box then asks Bomby his secret on why he keeps winning the prize every time his team is up for voting; Bomby responds with "Wow!" (the same interaction Firey Speaker Box and Puffball says in "Get in the Van"). Needle is shocked that her voice now sounds like Coiny and tells Pin that it's very surreal. Pin is glad to hear Coiny's voice again, but she's not fooled because it's still Needle — and Puffball Speaker Box still needs to bring Coiny back, to which Needle agrees.

Now at the elimination, the cake is a plane ticket to get out of the Clubhouse of Awesomeness as it's still sinking into the vomit. Bomby, Coiny and Pin are safe with around three thousand dislikes. Bomby tells Spongy good luck because he doesn't have to corrode. As Pin and Bomby fly on their planes, Pin notices a figure on a plane going towards the Clubhouse of Awesomeness. Needle is still worried that she and Nickel are not safe yet and still finds it weird to sound like Coiny. She then asks Nickel if Yellow Face can lend him some of his Win Tokens, to which he declines, saying that Yellow Face will never lend them any. Puffball Speaker Box announces that Needle and Nickel are safe with 4,000 and 5,000 dislikes respectively. Nickel states to Needle that they didn't need the Win Tokens and tells Spongy good luck as well since he is not corroding. As they fly, Needle also notices a figure on a plane. Back at the Clubhouse of Awesomeness, Spongy is nervous about elimination while Yellow Face is not. As the votes are revealed, Yellow Face is eliminated with 21,683 dislikes; to which he uses a Win Token. Puffball Speaker Box tells him it's too late to use it, but she'll accept it because she's nice. With the Win Token in place, Yellow Face's votes decreased to 10,841, however he still has the most dislikes. As he attempts to play another Win Token, his entire stash is swiped by a figure that flies inside the Clubhouse of Awesomeness, and it turns out to be Purple Face who stole his stash of Win Tokens. They then start to fight, and Yellow Face states that Puffball Speaker Box will not stand for crimes of theft, to which she declines and states she does stand for it. Since Yellow Face has no more Win Tokens to use, he is officially eliminated. Purple Face calls himself Yellow Face's fashion inspiration, Yellow Face replies that is ludicrous, then Purple Face puts his shoe brand, "Total Slip Shoes So Wah" (Reference to Flower's Non-Slip Shoes So Ha) on Yellow Face, asking then why Yellow Face is wearing his shoe brand, to which Yellow Face throws them out, hitting Pencil.

Puffball Speaker Box exits the Clubhouse of Awesomeness and locks it so Yellow Face and Purple Face can "sort things out in private". They continue to fight about Purple Face's shoe brand. Purple Face then states he's going to manufacture a thousand more, but Yellow Face grabs his Beryllium Fortress, Destruction ImpossibleTM and imprisons Purple Face within. He spray paints "DON'T OPEN, PURPLE INSIDE" on the box, then tells the viewers that it's 100% off for Purple Face. Meanwhile, outside, the other contestants hear out Yellow Face with Book hoping he and Purple Face can solve their issues. Yellow Face tries to get out since the Clubhouse of Awesomeness is almost done corroding; however, he can't, since Puffball Speaker Box locked it up. Yellow Face and the Eiffel Tower dissolve into the vomit acid with the Beryllium Fortress floating away due to its resistance to acid. Book then declares that they solved everything, and Puffball Speaker Box states that it is inspiring. The intro plays.

Challenge[]

Pin asks Puffball Speaker Box what she found inspiring about Yellow Face's death, Puffball Speaker Box then asks Pin why don't she spin the wheel to find out "with her arms", insulting Pin again. Bomby becomes slightly angry at Puffball Speaker Box for being rude to Pin. Regardless, he volunteers to spin the wheel, which lands on Charades, but with a catch — one member from each team gets trapped in glass, soundproof tubes containing falling spikes on the ceiling. The person inside reads a phrase written on a display, and attempts to act it out for the others to guess. When the other team members guess wrong, the spikes lower quicker, which gives less time for the contestant trapped inside to mimic their act. If there are too many incorrect guesses, or they run out of time, the person inside the tube will be crushed to death. However, if their team can correctly guess the display word, a member will be swapped into the chamber. Puffball Speaker Box tries to explain the challenge, but is interrupted by Gelatin, who asks if he can switch back to Team No Name, Puffball Speaker Box allows him to. Meanwhile, a paint thinning machine that Nickel ordered from Yellow Face appears, Book asks if she can use it, and Nickel lets her. All the other contestants that were painted pink also go use the paint thinning machine to get rid of the pink paint, Nickel says that since Yellow Face was eliminated (or dead to be exact), Nickel wonders who shipped the paint thinning machine to him. Then, Puffball Speaker Box explains the challenge.

Team switching[]

W.O.A.H. Bunch
 Pin
Team No-Name
FreeSmart

After she is done, FreeSmart tries to decide who should go in the chamber first. Pencil immediately wants Ice Cube to go, but Book jumps to Ice Cube's defense and explains how Pencil said she would recognize Ice Cube as a more valuable team member. The scene then cuts to W.O.A.H. Bunch trying to decide who should go. Needle speaks but then Pin accidentally calls her Coiny due to her voice being swapped with Coiny's, after this Bomby decides to volunteer to go inside the tube. The scene cuts to FreeSmart where Pencil says that Ice Cube doesn't have to go, but she says she is scared to go herself. Book reluctantly volunteers to go as she is the shortest if she lies down, which her give her more time. Then, Gelatin asks Puffball Speaker Box if she can recover his team, who died in the car crash in Meaty. Puffball Speaker Box can't recover because the HPRCBIFBOTET is the only recovery center east of the Goiky Canal, she ordered it for the Eiffel Tower and that dissolved in acid. So Gelatin goes to ask Book to borrow her laser shooter. Pencil tells him that Book is competing, which Gelatin takes as permission. He aims at the Yoyleland HPRC buttons and crank to recover his team, then transforms it to a grappling hook to grab Fries and Tennis Ball to the challenge area. Gelatin also tries to grab Golf Ball who's still glued to the tree but he's unable to do it, and then Gelatin tells them he's back on Team No Name. Tennis Ball is happy about it, but Gelatin immediately tells him to go to the trash compactor and do whatever the machine says. Tennis Ball gets inside.

The challenge starts and each member receives their prompt, Book gets "rowing a boat", Bomby gets "a sweater" and Tennis Ball gets "having hands". Book attempts to do a rowing gesture with her arms, swirling them in a circular motion. However, Pencil incorrectly guesses, and the spikes lower, Pencil then asks Puffball Speaker Box that an incorrect guess will lower the spikes, to which PSB answers. Then, Ruby guesses that Book is unclogging a Yoyle-Toilet, which lowers the spikes even more.

Meanwhile, on W.O.A.H. Bunch, Nickel easily deduces that Bomby is gesturing a sweater. To his surprise, guessing correctly causes him to swap with Bomby, putting Nickel inside the tube, then he yells "NOOOOO", Needle says that Nickel should know that the trash compactor is soundproof, so other team members can't hear the person inside the compactor. On Team No-Name, Tennis Ball ponders how he could possibly gesture having hands, since he is armless. He tries to pull his legs up, similar to the height of an arm, but this doesn't help Gelatin nor Fries deduce his phrase. Gelatin makes a joke about Tennis Ball being a bad inventor, which the machine detects as a wrong guess, lowering the spikes. Book has a similar issue on FreeSmart, the spikes fall so low that Book is forced to lie on her side. Fortunately, she opens herself to the word "Rowing." Ruby claims she can't read since she said she never go to gem school to learn how to read, so Pencil reads out the word and frees Book. Pencil is teleported inside of the machine. When Book asks Ruby why she doesn't know that Book is rowing a boat, Ruby answers that Book rows the boat the same way Ruby unclogs toilets.

Nickel acts out their phrase, that word being Evil Leafy. Spongy, having witnessed Evil Leafy himself, immediately gets this. However, he gets swapped with Nickel, becoming squished inside the tube due to his size being too big. Tennis Ball on team No-Name also becomes more squished, due to the descent of the spikes. Instead of trying to guess Tennis Ball's phrase, Gelatin and Fries bicker. Gelatin remarks that Fries was responsible for Pencil and Tennis Ball's death last episode, causing Fries to respond by raising a fist and saying "Want to catch these hands?" The machine detects the word "hand," and frees Tennis Ball.

Pencil received the phrase, "blowing out a candle," which Ruby, again, mistakes as unclogging a Yoyle-Toilet. On Team W.O.A.H. Bunch, Spongy is crushed under the weight of the spikes. Puffball Speaker Box announced that Team W.O.A.H bunch only has 5 living members left, 4 if excluding Coiny. This brings the total players in the challenge down to 4 per team. Pin says she is sad that Spongy's gone, but she's happy since Spongy is now in "a better place" rather than the trash compactor.

The scene soon cuts to Spongy, who has been transported to the Underworld, where he is a 3D model with a human head and legs.

Meanwhile, in Goiky, Gelatin cannot guess what Fries' dance is. Before he could figure out, Tennis Ball asks him if he really meant it when he said Tennis Ball couldn't build a good invention. Tennis Ball can lip-read, so he could understand everything Gelatin said. Gelatin reassures him that he was joking, but Tennis Ball is still upset because he feels that his inventions always fail, and that he was inferior to Golf Ball.

Bomby, inside W.O.A.H. Bunch's charade contraption, does the Coiny pose. Pin immediately understands it, and gets teleported inside the machine. Pin does Gelatin's iconic "Uhhh" from "Get in the Van". Needle guesses correctly, is sent inside, and impersonates Puffball's betrayal from "The Long-lost Yoyle City". Nickel guesses correctly, and is teleported inside, but is horrified when he is required to impersonate Nonexisty. He does a blank, motionless face, which the team misinterprets as stupidity.

Pencil still cannot get FreeSmart to guess "blowing a candle," so she tries a special technique. This creates Bubble, to Pencil's surprise, then Ice Cube said "Is that Bubble?", However, Ice Cube's remark is detected by the compactor and is counted as a wrong guess, crushing both Pencil and Bubble inside.

Pencil is then sent to the Underworld, where she mistakes Spongy for Bubble and exclaims how ugly Spongy became, with a text-to-speech voice. Spongy, using oddly verbose grammar, tells Pencil to stop acting the way she does, and informs her of her own appearance, giving her the mirror, causing her to scream.

A montage commences, including many references from the 2014 era. In it, we see Fries and Nickel being crushed while Ruby, Book, Tennis Ball, Ice Cube, Gelatin, Bomby and Needle survive and is then switched. Pin receives a phrase saying the "Macaroni Dance". This dance involves using arms and hands, which Pin forgets that she does not have due to her limbs got removed in "Get in the Van". Bomby and Needle, seeing Pin try to do a dance she physically cannot do, decide to purposefully crush Pin. Bomby guesses multiple fruits until Pin is crushed to death.

Inside the tube, Ice Cube does her "ugly face" from "Get Digging", which Ruby incorrectly guesses as "ugly face." Ice Cube then turns upside down and does the ugly face, an "inverted ugly face." Since the inverse of "ugly" is "beautiful," Ruby correctly guesses it.

Pin, Nickel and Fries are then seen in the Underworld. Pin and Nickel ask Pencil and Spongy whether they know what's going on, to which Pencil says she is also unaware of what is happening. Nickel notices all the fire around them, and sees Pencil also catch on fire. Pin then says that she wants to join the conversation.

Gelatin gestures a flipping motion, with the Sender Scoop Thrower sound effect playing. Tennis Ball correctly guesses it, and is teleported inside. Once inside, he is horrified at the phrase he has to act out.

Meanwhile, Ruby, inside the tube, reads out her phrase, "playing Toss the Dirt." However, Book questions how Ruby can read it, writing it down on a sign for her to see. Ruby asks Book how she hears her, to which Book reveals that she can read lips. Ruby then reveals that she only pretended to not read, to get sympathy points from Pencil. However, Puffball Speaker Box overhears Book's yelling, and blindfolds her. Puffball Speaker Box also changes Ruby's word to "eating sugar". Ice Cube sees Ruby's eating motion, but doesn't know what she's eating. She guesses vegetables, which Ruby finds gross to eat. After another wrong guess, Ruby decides to act out what she does after eating sugar, rather than the action, which is actually going nuts. Ruby ends up knocking the chamber over, causing it to roll down a hill. Book and Ice Cube chase Ruby's chamber down the hill, where the first group of recommended characters are later seen. Ice Cube later guesses it correctly, and is thrown against the walls of the chamber once she's inside. She wiggles her legs, which Ruby correctly guesses as the fish monster.

Tennis Ball's word is revealed to be acetylsalicylic acid, to his dismay. He knows that Gelatin couldn't possibly know about nor guess acetylsalicylic acid. He twists his legs into it's chemical structure, but he doubts that Gelatin could correctly get the answer. Gelatin guesses wrongly, and Tennis Ball is nearly squashed.

Needle and Bomby are shown to be very talented at charades, guessing many phrases in quick succession. The same happens with Ice Cube and Ruby, until Ruby can't figure out Ice Cube's phrase. Ruby describes Ice Cube's action to Book, who figures out that she's imitating Pin's gaslighting from "Get in the Van". Book is transported inside the tube, but as Book is blindfolded, she cannot read her word.

Tennis Ball is still trying to get Gelatin to guess correctly, when he instead realizes that he needs to get Golf Ball to guess correctly, as she is the only other person who can understand chemistry. The screen later zooms in to Golf Ball, glued to a tree in Yoyleland.

Ruby and Ice Cube are chasing after Book, when they notice a tree and a cliff where Book is about to roll. Book finally takes off her blindfold, to find that her word was "Lips." Puffball Speaker Box punishes Book for reading "Lips," tearing her to shreds with knives.

In the Underworld, Nickel, again, using verbose grammar and a text to speech voice, deduces that they are there because they were all specifically crushed by the crusher. Pin (in a similar robotic fashion) asks Nickel what he means. Fries, using regular speech and a normal voice, asks why everybody is talking weirdly. But Pencil, unable to understand him, does not say anything back to him in response, Instead, she weirdly flattens Fries with her arm, and says that nobody could understand what Fries was saying, which Pin agrees to.

Tennis Ball, using a laser constructed out of some of the machine's parts, draws out the molecular structure for acetylsalicylic acid on the moon. Looking up at the moon all the way from Yoyleland, Golf Ball recognised the molecular structure, teleporting her inside the charade chamber. Tennis Ball gets freed, but Golf Ball gets trapped inside the charade machine. Since she wasn't informed of what the challenge was, she doesn't know what to do in the tube, and gets crushed.

Meanwhile, Coiny asphyxiates to death inside the cash register, leaving only Needle and Bomby in W.O.A.H. Bunch. Too caught up by this news, Needle almost forgets about Bomby's charade. Needle is about to guess it, when Gelatin wraps his headphones around her mouth, muting her. Gelatin informs her that the glue is water soluble, so he could easily get out of the headphones. However, Gelatin also forgets to guess Tennis Ball's word. He incorrectly guesses, "Tennis Ball, you are the greatest inventor to ever exist," thinking that the "moral of the story" would somehow be the answer, resulting in Tennis Ball getting crushed. Needle comes in and mocks Gelatin by his name with "more like 'thing to step IN'" and squashes Gelatin. Bomby is then freed, telling Needle that he almost exploded due to the pressure. Puffball Speaker Box then announces that Team No-Name is up for elimination.

Stinger[]

Ruby and Ice Cube are walking downhill, talking about what happened, saying that when their trash compactor shattered, Puffball Speaker Box forgot to gave them another, and simply let them walk away while the credits are shown then Ruby asks where's Pencil. The scene then cuts to the Underworld where Pencil is talking with her new acquaintances. She complains that she's still on fire and is annoyed that no one is helping her. Spongy replies that he doesn't help people who call him ugly. Pencil looks back with a dirty look.

Trivia[]

  • This episode is the first BFDIA episode of 2024. It is also the first episode of the Battle for Dream Island series to be released in 2024.
  • As of this episode's release, BFDIA has become the fourth season to reach 9 episodes.
  • This episode confirms that an afterlife exists within the BFDI universe, with every contestant killed by the crusher during the challenge appearing in the Underworld, and become animated in CGI. Nickel deduces that they are there only because they were all crushed by the crusher. This implies that there isn't usually an "afterlife" for BFDI characters, and instead, is a one-off event.
  • This is the first BFDIA episode to be over 30 minutes without counting BFDIA 5 and its multiple parts.
  • In release-date order, this is Bubble's return and first speaking role since Chapter Complete.
  • This is the third episode where Book's death has to do with her shape being mildly deformed, the first being "Intruder Alert", and the second being "Outbreak At Stake".
  • As of this episode, the ninth spoken word is "won't". Therefore, the current message is "Don't try that thing again, because it definitely won't—"
  • This is the second time that Ruby has cried. The first was "No More Snow!".
  • Inside the Compactor Underworld, Pin has limbs despite her losing them in her normal form. It's unknown if this was done on purpose or not.
  • The Zap Shooter is also a grappling hook.
  • On the BFDIA 9 voting playlist, in Fries' video you can see him playing an animation at the end.
  • The Underworld was the third time in the series where the medium that the show was depicted in was changed for a joke. The first time was in "Bowling, Now with Explosions!" where the show's style was changed to puppetry at the beginning of that episode, the second time was in "SOS (Save Our Show)" where the animation style was degraded to emulate paper cutouts, being drawn in Microsoft Paint, and only being in storyboard comic strips, due to the show running out of budget.
  • Even though the trash compactors are said to be soundproof, many contestants inside them can be seen reacting to what the outsiders are saying, showing that sound can enter the compactors but can't exit. This attribute is also shared with jawbreakers.
    • This means Book using signs to communicate with Ruby was useless.
  • Yellow Face had previously advertised his headphones as using "superglue" to make his headphones unremovable. In this episode it is revealed that said glue is water soluble (being the same as the glue Team No-Name used in "Well Rested"), but cyanoacrylates (the active ingredient in superglue) are not water soluble and are in fact activated by moisture. It is possible that Yellow Face was falsely advertising his headphones.
  • This is the first episode of BFDIA to not a have a member of FreeSmart in its thumbnail since No More Snow!, unless you count Gelatin, even though he switched back to Team No-Name in this episode.
  • This is the first episode of BFDIA to have the challenge decided by the host instead of the spinning wheel.
  • This episode also made the YouTube trending list in the US, Canada and Australia, peaking at #13 in the US, #45 in Australia, and #11 in Canada.
  • When FreeSmart guesses the phrases Ice Cube and Ruby have while rolling down the hill, the phrases abbreviate to WTF.
  • When Bomby and Needle exchange phrases with each other, the phrases abbreviate to BFDIA.
  • The pose and face of the Pumpkin recommended character resembles the non-canon minor character of the same name that Michael drew for Halloween in 2014.
  • This is the first time in BFDIA where a Win Token is used.
  • This is the first episode to take place entirely in the southern Goiky grasslands since "Zeeky Boogy Doog".
  • According to a post by WoopDoo, this episode takes place in January of 2014, 7 months after the events of BFDIA 5.
    • This episode canonically takes place on January 11, 2014.
  • This is the 3rd BFDI episode to be available in 2160p.
  • This is the episode where the Algebralian, 11, debuted
  • Although the Vine Boom Sound Effect originated in April 2014, it’s used in the episode. (This episode canonically takes place in January 11, 2014)

Elimination[]

  • The Chinese text in the new Cake at Stake intro, when translated, says ingredients for cake.
  • Due to Yellow Face's elimination, this is the first time Yellow Face has been eliminated both chronologically and release date wise, not counting him quitting in "The Escape from Four".
  • Yellow Face is the first contestant to be eliminated before the finale, on the day they first appeared in the show (if you live outside of a place that uses the Pacific Time Zone), that day being for Yellow Face, February 1st.
  • With Yellow Face gone, the ratio of eliminated males to females and newbies to veteran contestants is 4:4.
    • There are also no non-objects competing.
  • Not taking the Win Token play into account, Yellow Face has gotten the second most dislikes in a BFDIA elimination so far.
  • Yellow Face is the first W.O.A.H. Bunch member to be eliminated in Season 2b that wasn't on Team No-Name.
  • Yellow Face is the second yellow contestant to be eliminated in BFDIA, after Donut in "Get Digging".
    • Spongy and Tennis Ball (green-ish yellow) are the only yellow contestants still competing in BFDIA.
  • Yellow Face is the second future member of Free Food, The S! and CloudYAY to be eliminated. The first being Donut from CloudYAY, Puffball from Free Food and Rocky from The S! leaving Fries the only member of Free Food, Ice Cube the only member of The S! and Golf Ball the only member of CloudYAY contestants still competing in BFDIA.
  • Yellow Face is the fourth BFDIA debuter to be eliminated after Donut, Dora, and Puffball.
  • Yellow Face is the second non-object contestant to be eliminated, after Dora in "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3".
  • Yellow Face is the fourth contestant voiced by Michael Huang to be eliminated after Donut, Puffball, and Firey.
    • He is also the third BFDIA debuter voiced by Michael Huang to be eliminated.

Continuity references[]

  • Yellow Face's dislike count still being the highest after using win tokens is a reference to Needle's elimination in "Puzzling Mysteries". Needle herself also mentions how she used a win token in that episode, with a flashback also included.
  • One of Needle's actions in the charades chamber is similar to Pen's actions from the video, Thanks for 4 years!.
  • Nickel's part during the montage has the BFDI intro bassline playing before he is crushed.
  • This episode contains 3 different BFDI acronym jokes:
    • The first one comes from Yellow Face, who introduces the "DON'T OPEN, PURPLE INSIDE" Box as a "beryllium fortress, destruction: impossible.
    • The second joke comes from Needle and Bomby rapid-firing through charades. In order, their actions are bandaging a leg, frying an egg, delivering a pizza, inhaling helium, and acronymizing the last five phrases gestured.
    • The third one is in the very next scene when FreeSmart's chamber is rolling down a hill, doing charades in a similar fashion to the previous scene with Needle and Bomby. In order, their actions are writing a book, tossing away the trash, and flying a kite. This is most likely a reference to the Weak Trembling Fortress, the BFDIA elimination area as of BFDIA 7.
  • Bomby does his BFDI pose while in the chamber.
  • Yellow Face's comment about using his win token is a reference to Pin's elimination in "Power of Three".
  • Needle's line "Cool story, bro." is a partial reference to the BFB episode "The Escape from Four" when Pie says a similar line to Golf Ball.
  • The Don't Open, Purple Inside box in this episode looks the same as it did in the BFB episodes "Let's Raid The Warehouse" and "Fashion For Your Face!".
    • Although, chronologically, this episode marks its first appearance.
    • Yellow Face says the box would take 6+ years to break through, foreshadowing the aforementioned episodes.
  • Ruby mentions Gem School, which was first mentioned in "No More Snow!".
    • Nickel mentions Book having sold Ruby's remains and made billions in profit, to which she denied and claimed it was a smear campaign also referenced that episode.
    • Pencil also wildly waves her arms when she yells at Ruby, just like she does in that episode.
  • The Laser Powered Teleportation Devices makes a return from its last appearance in Insectophobe's Nightmare 2, this time to transport contestants in and out of the trash compactors.
  • Pencil mentioning that Ice Cube is no longer garbage compared to Match is a reference to "Vomitaco".
  • Book recounts what Pencil said about seeing Ice Cube's value as a team member in "Well Rested".
  • Puffball Speaker Box telling Bomby when every time his team has been up for voting, he won the prize is a reference to "Get in the Van", where in that episode, it was Puffball instead.
  • Puffball Speaker Box's comment about accepting Yellow Face's Win Token is a partial reference to "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3".
  • The scenes featuring paper airplanes in this episode could be a partial reference to the BFB episode "Fortunate Ben", which also features paper airplanes.
  • Pencil says "Book's. COMPETING. Right. Now." in a similar manner to Firey saying "Actual answer, RIGHT NOW!!" in the BFB episode "Chapter Complete".
  • Pin makes the same bigmouth face that she does in "Get in the Van".
  • Ice Cube makes her "ugly face" again just like in "Get Digging".
  • Ice Cube's guess of Ruby eating the remains of a dead contestant is likely a reference to "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3", where Rocky swallows one of Fries' poisoned fries.
  • Ruby getting the brief charade task of "Toss the Dirt" would reference/foreshadow Marker's running gag in pre-split BFB.
  • When Ruby was gesturing eating sugar for the first time, she was using the same pose as in "Welcome Back".

Cultural references[]

  • Yoylite's ability to preserve one's spirit may be a reference to the 2010 Nintendo DS video game Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.
  • When Bomby volunteers to go first for the contest, he says "I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!" which is a reference to The Hunger Games.
  • Pencil spins her torso around before blowing a Bubble, much like how SpongeBob SquarePants does in his "bring it around town" part in his bubble-blowing technique from the episode "Bubblestand".
  • During the dance montage, various references to memes that were popular in the object show community during BFDIA's "cancellation" time period (2013-2014) are made:
    • Fries' dance references the video BulletGroove, where Bullet from Object Havoc does a dance originally from the song Gangnam Style by PSY.
      • BulletGroove itself is parody of catgroove.
      • It could also be a reference to B.A.G.U.E.T.T.E. 4B, where a comic was submitted for a challenge which at one point Fries references Gangnam Style.
    • Ruby's dance is a reference to an action Sam does in Salmon Fiveyears.
    • Both Ice Cube and Book's reference the meme Just a Bit Crazy which originated from Eddsworld.
      • The animations are specifically referencing the video Just a bit BFDI, seeing that it looks similar, especially with Ice Cube.
    • Tennis Ball runs back and forth on the spot, just like the meme "Very Hot", which was popularized and by katyj98.
    • Gelatin's dance is from the video, "Jellygroove".
      • The video itself is a meme that originally came from BulletGroove, where both videos use the exact same music and involve an object dancing to the song.
    • Bomby's action references EVERY-OBJECT DO THE FLOP!, specifically at Casey from Object Overload doing the action originally by the "Do the Flop" guy from the asdfmovie series.
      • As a point of acknowledgement to both this and the Eddsworld reference, Thomas Ridgewell, the person involved with both of the mentioned animated series, replied to a tweet of the dance montage clip of this episode.
    • Needle's action references "does the Pen thing for a while", a meme created and popularized by XanyLeaves where other characters would imitate Pen's spin and jump from Thanks for 4 years!
    • The music that plays during Fries, Book, Ice Cube, Tennis Ball, and Gelatin's parts also seem to be in reference to their respective memes, with their actions synced with the music.
      • The extended cut of the song includes even more references to OSC music, including:
        • "Broomer's Guitar", a song from the object show Excellent Entities.
        • "New Friendly" by Kevin MacLeod.
        • "Rock My Emotions" by Kitsune2 (Used as the source for Rock My BFDI).
        • The theme to Katyj98's BFDI Trivia series.
        • "Can't Imagine", a song from the object show Through the Woods.
        • "Keygen 8" by Dubmood (Used as the source for Eliminating BFDI).
        • "Tom's Dog", the song used for the "Funny Walk" trend.
        • A segment similar to Sparta Remixes.
        • "Unreal Superhero 3" by Kenet and Rez (Used for the infinite doodle in BFDI 3 and the stinger of BFDI 8).
        • "Famous" by Archie (Used as the source of 6000 Subscribers).
  • Pin attempts to do the "Macaroni dance" while in the charades chamber. While it hasn't been seen in action, the dance steps Pin describes imply it is similar to the Macarena.
  • Golf Ball saying "I am so bored! This is like the beginning of an object show I watched recently." alludes to the cliché of object shows starting with a character claiming they're bored, leading up to a different character showing up and announcing they'd be hosting a competition show.
  • One of the prizes on the prize wheel was a "diamond pickaxe", a reference to the tool from Minecraft.
    • Additionally, another prize from the prize wheel was to "carcinize". This likely refers to carcinization, a type of convergent evolution in which a crustacean evolves to resemble a crab.
    • Moreover, one of the other prizes on the prize wheel was an "air fryer", possibly referencing the "Clearly, you don't own an air fryer" meme.
  • When the teams incorrectly guess what the members in the trash compactors are doing, a Wrong Buzzer sound plays (Which is an extremely common sound effect known as Simon Cowell's buzzer and is heavily used for incorrect stuff/answers/choices when a red X, a "no symbol", or something red appears or lightens, etc). This is heard VERY often, almost every time when the teams incorrectly guesses.
    • Additionally when Ice Cube incorrectly guesses that Ruby is eating vegetables and the poisoned remains of a dead contestant, and when Gelatin incorrectly guesses that Tennis Ball is playing tic-tac-toe, the sad thrombone (from Early-2010) plays (most likely a stock sound for mocking failure) alongside the aforementioned buzzer. This sound however, likely did not come from the trash compactor.
  • When Puffball Speaker Box tells Pin to spin the contest wheel with her hands, a Vine boom sound plays.
  • The recommended character "Sunny" bears a striking resemblance (and is a possible reference) to the character of the same name from the VeggieTales episode "God Wants Me to Forgive Them!?!".
  • When Puffball Speaker Box changes Ruby's phrases, Ruby snaps her fingers and says "Aw, Man!" like Swiper the Fox from Dora the Explorer, whenever he is stopped from swiping something from Dora and Boots.
  • The recommended character in this episode called "Goldy the Goldfish" might be a reference to Goldie the Fish from Peppa Pig.
  • The recommended character "Chainsaw man" is a reference to the anime of the same name.
  • When Tennis Ball sees to his dismay that his word is acetylsalicylic acid, a scary suspense sound effect plays, which comes from the popular 2014 horror game Dungeon Nightmares.
  • The recommended character "Poland Ball" is a reference to the characters from the Countryballs series.

Deaths[]

Goofs[]

  • The anniversary wheel in this episode is actually supposed to say "Happy 4th birthday, BFDI!" instead of "Happy fourteenth birthday, BFDI!" given that this episode takes place in 2014. As proven by "Start the Shift", an episode taking place in 2015, having written "Happy 5th birthday, BFDI!" instead of "Happy 15th birthday, BFDI!".
  • The "DON'T OPEN, PURPLE INSIDE" box has the words in the wrong way, as it was layered "DON'T OPEN, PURPLE INSIDE" instead of "DON'T PURPLE, OPEN INSIDE".
  • Puffball Speaker Box claims that the HPRCBIFBOTET (and therefore, where the challenge takes place) is "East of the canal." This contradicts Leafy's Map, which shows that Goiky is split north-south, not east-west.
  • When Ruby is rolling past the recommended characters for the first time, Santa Ice Cube's body is facing the wrong way for a few frames.
  • In BFDIA 5b, the win tokens use the font JasmineUPC, but Yellow Face's printed win tokens do not have this same font and instead use a font that Adobe Animate falls back on when a font is not installed. This might be intentional to slightly differentiate the printed win tokens with the actual win tokens.
  • It's unexplained how Bubble died on her way to the Locker of Losers, allowing Pencil to blow Bubble. It could be argued that Bubble shattered on impact, but in "Well Rested", FreeSmart & W.O.A.H. Bunch were falling from Yoyle Tower while Coiny, Pin, Firey Speaker Box & Ruby were made out of Yoyle Metal & they didn't shatter onto the ground.
    • However, it could be possible that bubble was eaten by the fish monster on her way to the LOL.
  • The glue under the HPRC is gone.
  • Fries is crushed in the Underworld but immediately goes back to normal at the last Underworld scene, where Tennis Ball and Golf Ball show up. However, in the video released by CobyPal, Fries is still crushed in that scene.
  • Ruby is layered over Ice Cube at 23:57.
  • In the part with Ruby imitating what she's like when on a sugar rush, the crusher in the trash compactor is significantly higher than it was before, as it was taking up almost half of the compactor, only to be reset to its default position.
  • Gelatin says that the headphones' superglue is water soluble, but that is impossible as shown towards the end of "Well Rested" where Ice Cube, who was wearing the headphones at the time, went underwater repeatedly and the glue did not dissolve.
  • Golf Ball is crushed to death by the trash compactor, despite surviving the Announcer Crusher in BFDI 2.
    • The former could have been made of a tougher material.
  • At 23:50 the camera cuts to a closer zoom of Needle for no apparent reason.
  • During the montage, the curtains behind the compactors are gone.
  • When Puffball Speaker Box is counting down, the camera shows Ruby and Ice Cube. However, Ruby's legs are seen layered over her body, and have red on the tops.
  • Fries moves slightly in their Voting video, this is likely unintentional as the rest don’t move at all.

Well, it's day 60 of being in this cash regis-

    Golf Ball

I have been glued here for three months and goshdarn it, I am so bored!

The number of days from September 20, 2013 to January 11, 2014 would add up to slightly less than 4 months.

Maybe you should've thought about that before placing those horrible headphones on me four months ago!
