Appearance[]
Coiny is a metal coin that, while not a penny,[3] is often referred to as such (stated by Eraser in "Sweet Tooth"). His body is a bright copper color. Between BFDI and BFDIA, his edges were rounded to make him a perfect circle.

Coiny's outlines are loosely drawn and vary in thickness.

Although Coiny is nice sometimes, he is relatively rude most of the time. In addition, he occasionally has conflicts with others. The most notable of which is with Firey. During the first season, he had an intense hatred toward him when the two frequently slapped each other in episodes. This was because Coiny forgot about Firey's poison, water.
Coiny has also shown an ability of persuasion and charisma. He generally tries to give speeches toward the other contestants on several accounts throughout the series. He was even able to convince Firey to let him into Dream Island.
Coiny now has many more rude and abrasive moments than before with some of the contestants who aren't his friends, such as Teardrop, Bomby, and Spongy. He is also more of a leader and a strategist coming up with ideas to help his team and Pin. For example, he convinced her to switch teams and used his teammates' abilities to benefit them in certain challenges. Initially, Coiny is somewhat callous and unfriendly—in "No More Snow!", he is unconcerned by the prospect of Spongy, Needle, and even Pin being dead forever since it increases his chances of winning. He also forces several contestants to switch to his team by threatening them.
However, as the season progresses, Coiny matures and mellows out. In the latter half, he becomes a voice of reason for the more aggressive Pin, frequently checking on her well-being and trying to calm her down when she's upset, like when she’s frustrated at Ruby stealing her song in "PointyPointyPointy ♫". Additionally, in the same episode, Coiny expresses frustration when Pin is the target of jokes and takes action to support her, such as spinning the prize wheel on her behalf to ensure she receives a favorable outcome. This emphasizes Coiny's loyalty and protective nature, especially towards Pin. He works closely with her to complete the challenges, and his willingness to assist in fixing her mech suit shows his commitment to teamwork.
After Pin leaves him behind to win the contest for herself in "Airplanes in the Night Sky", Coiny is apparently unbothered. However, it gradually becomes clear that he was in fact affected. In the following episodes, Coiny is concerned only with having fun, brushing off any hardships or hostilities and not taking anything very seriously. But this attitude becomes less convincing as the challenge goes on, and it is heavily implied that he is only focusing on having fun so as to suppress his true feelings. He decides to make Pin lose even if it means losing himself, and defends his choice by saying that she doesn't care about all the help he gave her, so he is trying to have fun instead of focusing on the contest.
Coiny is shown to be somewhat childish and energetic. This is shown in "Welcome Back," where he yells that the grotatoes will taste delicious and tries to eat them when they've barely began growing. He also hypes up the wall teleporter calling it his "favorite thing in the whole world" despite not knowing what it is. Finally, in the stinger ending of the episode, he gleefully takes "deep-fried breaths" with boiling frying oil, much to Fries' and Leafy's terror.
Coiny is nicer and also much more thoughtful. Some examples of this are shown when he comforts Pin in "Four Goes Too Far" and offers Marker some dirt cake in "This Episode Is About Basketball". He also seems to have grown closer to Firey over this time.
Coiny showcases his ability to think creatively and utilize the strengths of his teammates to achieve the team's goal, such as in "You Know Those Buttons Don't Do Anything, Right?" when Coiny uses Pin to climb the building. This also influences the strategy of the other team members, indicating that Coiny's actions can have a broader impact on the team.
He also appears to be strongly attached to how things used to be, particularly regarding his relationship with Pin during their time in BFDIA. In "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life", when Pin expresses discomfort with using glue in this challenge and shares her dislike for that season, it likely clashed with everything Coiny remembers: an era filled with memories that he looks back on with pride and nostalgia. This leaves him confused and questioning this unexpected side of Pin, since she liked to win in BFDIA.
Coiny is a small orange coin. One of his favorite hobbies is baking dirt. Coiny always knows what teammate will be best at a specific challenge, and he likes to make long speeches that no one else cares about.
Coiny and Firey have been rivals for as long as they can remember, and they still are, even after becoming friends. One result of this rivalry is that, when Firey was picking people to allow onto Dream Island, he picked Coiny last.
Did You Know?: Contrary to what some may tell you, Coiny is actually not a penny.
Abilities[]
Heat resistance: Coiny is immune to lava, which in Goiky averages just over 1000˚C, thanks to his natural melting point of almost 1100˚C. This allows him to slap Firey without pain. He can also survive being melted as shown in "Well, Look Who It Is!", "I'm the Main Character", and "Shattered!" when inside the Earth's core.
High lung capacity: Between "Meaty" and "Catch These Hands", while he was stuck inside a cash register from Gelatin's Steakhouse and floating through interstellar space, Coiny was able to breathe for 2 months straight (~86,400 minutes), using air he had inhaled from Earth before being put inside by Gelatin, before finally succumbing to death by asphyxiation in the middle of the challenge.
Telepathy (Pin only): In "Intruder Alert", Coiny appeared to intrude Pin's thoughts, agreeing that the team needed a better team leader. He was also able to communicate this back, much to Pin’s surprise. This ability is further utilized in "Insectophobe's Nightmare 4", when Pin communicates with him in a type of thought after losing her limbs, face and size. This also briefly occurs in "Well, Look Who It Is!".
Advanced Eyesight: In "Intruder Alert", when Firey Speaker Box sends Rocky to the Locker of Losers but it's closed, Coiny says 'That's not good... shouldn't he go in?' even though the Locker of Losers is miles and miles away.
Voice Switching: In “Taste The Sweetness”, when Barbecue Sauce thinks that he isn’t the Coiny he knows due to his voice being Needle’s voice, he creates a reaction that switches his and Needle’s voice back. There is no proof that Needle did anything because after the scene, Needle just realized that her voice switched so we know that Coiny was the one who made the reaction.
Money Explosion: If Nickel is too close to Coiny, not only will a black vortex appear in the middle of them, but the vortex will also eventually blast coins and dollars up into the air. This happened in "The Long-lost Yoyle City" and "Intruder Alert", where Pin pushed them into each other, causing them to create a money-blasting portal.
Strong Stomach: In "Respect to the Wicked", he managed to survive drinking gasoline when he reached a pit stop along with FreeSmart and Pin.

Contrary to popular belief, the Official Character Guide confirms Coiny isn't a penny.
However, Coiny has been previously depicted, and is valued at one cent in the episode "Sweet Tooth". The term "penny" often refers to the smallest denotation of currency in many countries across the world. It's possible that Coiny is in fact a different type of coin, but is treated as a penny when considered legal tender.
In Coiny's plush description on the jacknjellify shop, it's stated that Coiny is a penny.
Coiny made a brief appearance on Fan's Fantastic Features in the Inanimate Insanity episode "Nickel For Your Thoughts", with Michael Huang reprising his role as Coiny. It was an ironic reference since II's Nickel was talking about knockoffs.
