Oooh! A Zappy!

The Laser Gun (also called a Zap Ray, a Spaceship Laser Shooter, a Zap Shooter, or a Zappy) is a laser gun that makes reoccurring appearances in Battle for Dream Island Again and Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two. It can act as a laser shooter, grappling hook, shrink ray, or a paint gun.

Appearance[]

The Laser Gun is a blocky, purple-colored gun with a default smiling face and an orb at its tip that fires lasers. When in grappling hook mode, the orb is replaced with a grappling hook.

Notably, its facial design differs between appearances. In BFDIA, the face is composed of eye and mouth assets, while in TPOT, the face is hand-drawn. Additionally, the Zap Shooter's expression can change depending on the optic being used.

Abilities[]

  • Laser shooting: The Laser Gun’s primary function is as a laser gun. It can fire lasers capable of completely eradicating anything they hit. However, one of Book's pages states that the Laser Gun can run out of lasers. The same page also notes that the lasers are effective for defense against fish monsters.
  • Paint shooting: When injected with paint, the Laser Gun instead fires the injected paint. This is shown in "Meaty" and is used to paint the Eiffel Tower.
  • Shrinking: In "Spore Day", the Zap Shooter has the ability to shrink characters with its lasers for unknown reasons. It’s possible that this is a different Laser Gun, however.

Coverage[]

In "Meaty", while FreeSmart messes around in the exploded ruins of the Aerospace Manufacturing Plant, Book finds the Zap Shooter in a pile of rubble and states that she will hang onto it. Later in the episode, in an effort to stop Team No-Name's lead in the challenge, Pencil snatches the Zap Shooter from Book and begins firing a barrage of lasers at Team No-Name. Later, Pencil injects paint into the Zap Shooter turning it into a paint gun. She shoots much of the Eiffel Tower with paint and then offers it to Ruby, who begins shooting like crazy, hitting multiple things, including many recommended characters, Gelatin's Shadeshouse, and Golf Ball's Underground Factory. Ruby later gets disarmed by Team No-Name by being run over.

In "Catch These Hands", Gelatin uses it to recover Tennis Ball and Fries from afar, and uses it as a grappling hook to bring them to the Plains. He also tried this with Golf Ball, but fails because she is glued to a tree in the Yoyle Woodland.

In "Taste the Sweetness", Gelatin remarks that he now has two laser pointers after Tennis Ball gives him his. As he says this, he pulls out the Zap Shooter.

In "Well, Look Who It Is!", Coiny uses it to get himself and Pin out of The Underworld.

In "Spore Day", it is seen on top of the two-day-old tree in the Colosseum. Nickel climbs the tree and grabs it, but is hit by a flying Amethyst and drops the Laser Gun. It hits the ground, causing it to fire at Nickel and shrink him.

In "Airplanes in the Night Sky", Gelatin's Zap Shooter is stolen by Tennis Ball. He uses its grappling hook to grab Needle and throws her toward the lighthouse, causing the line to tangle and wrap around her. Later, Book unties the line and hands the grappling hook to Needle. She then uses it on Tennis Ball, but it ends up knocking both of them off the satellite tower.

While the Zap Shooter's first appearance in-universe is "Meaty", it debuted before the release of that episode, in "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life", the zap shooter first appears when Robot Flower hands it to Pie, instead of the battery she asked for. When Cloudy takes the pile of Robot Flower's items, he drops the Zap Shooter, which falls and kills Eraser. At some point, Teardrop must've grabbed it offscreen in order to help her in the challenge. She fires it at Eraser when he knocks her stack of blocks over, and then at Death P.A.C.T. Again's stack. When the team tries to retaliate, Teardrop kills all of their members, except Black Hole, since he's immune to the lasers. The Zap Shooter gets destroyed when Teardrop accidentally gets it and herself sucked into Black Hole.

In "Getting Puffball To Think About Rollercoasters", Robot Flower has a brand-new Laser Gun for Teardrop, but before she can hand it to her, Tennis Ball flies into her, causing her to obliterate Teardrop with the shooter. It then falls next to Eraser, who fires it at a window, and the glass shards land on Two's cheesecake. In the challenge, Eraser threatens to zap Teardrop's attraction until she flutters her arms, making him think she doesn't care. Later, after Eraser accidentally helps Teardrop win, he pulls out the Zap Shooter and starts firing at her. As he gives chase, he accidentally obliterates Pen, TV, Fanny, and Team8s' attraction in the process.

In "Outbreak At Stake", Golf Ball is seen using a Laser Gun on Zombified Pen's cap, but it doesn't disintegrate so she throws it away.

In "Category One", Book finds it inside a box in the Hotel. Price Tag is later seen using it on the fish monsters.

In "I SAID CAREFUL!!!", Golf Ball builds her own Laser Gun in order to obliterate the members of the opposing teams trying to keep hers from grabbing the volcano flag. She is successful in killing the members of Team 2, but is eaten by Planty before she can get BaggedBagged.

Trivia[]

  • Weirdly, in BFDIA 9, the Laser Gun is purple, its normal color. But in BFDIA 8, the Zap Ray was infused with pink paint, making it turn pink. According to chronological order, the Laser Gun should've still been pink.
    • There is currently no explanation in-universe for how or why the Laser Gun turned back to normal, although production-wise since the Zap Shooter's first appearance in TPOT 2 was released before BFDIA was continued, the Laser Gun's altercation is unaccounted for. In "Catch These Hands", it has turned back to normal without an explanation.
    • It is possible that they are different Laser Guns.
  • The Zappy may be alive, as it is shown frowning in "Well, Look Who It Is!" after Coiny fails to get Pin out of The Underworld.
  • They are the third character to canonically blush, after Cake and Pillow.
  • It is stated in one of Book's pages in "Spore Day" and "Category One" that one needs a firearms license to use the Laser Gun, which can be obtained legally or illegally.

Drill Shooter[]

Drill Shooter is a conjectural name.

"Who are you? Can you tell me?"Eggy, "Lick Your Way to Freedom"
The subject of this article or section has never been given an official name stated either in the Battle for Dream Island series, or by Jacknjellify; the current one is unofficial.

The Drill Shooter is a variation of the Laser Gun that appears in "Airplanes in the Night Sky" in Fries' store.

Coverage[]

In "Airplanes in the Night Sky", the Drill Shooter first appears in the FriesMart store as one of the items on display. When Pin asks if she can buy it, Fries ignores her request and instead offers her a spoon, placing it on her head. Later, as Fries notices everyone climbing the satellite tower, he rushes to the store, grabs the Drill Shooter, and fires a drill into the foundation, causing the tower to collapse into the nearby forest. While chasing Pin up the collapsed tower, he shoots a drill at her, but she catches it with her wheel and places it atop her head. Pin then chases Book up the tower and tears her into pieces by drilling straight through her.
