Appearance[]
Needle appears to be a metal sewing needle. She is very tall, thin, and is light gray-colored.
Similar to Ice Cube, Needle is a relatively quiet and vengeful character. She is also known for a running gag that her behavior will immediately become irritable whenever the word “needy” is used directed toward her as a nickname. She will slap anyone who says the word, sometimes when it isn't even directed at her.
Needle can otherwise be personalized as a loyal, helpful, reliable and friendly contestant. In the seasons she plays in, Needle consistently helps her teammates and those who she considers friends. This can be reinforced in episodes such as “Respect to the Wicked” where Needle decides to play for two teams during a challenge. In contrast, to those that Needle considers contestants that have not treated her right, Needle may do actions to cause problems for those, such as lying, working with other contestants or slapping said contestants. Needle is also athletic, being a fast runner and being as capable to return to her normal stance after being in the form of having a bent body.
There is no canonical specification why Needle has said as to why she dislikes being called "needy", but it's likely because the word needy is used to either describe someone in poverty or someone incredibly demanding and dependent to the point of obnoxiousness. Despite this though, she has no issues with calling others names they don't like, such as when she called Puffball "puffy" as a way to threaten her to help her team during BFDIA.
When she isn't referred to by her nickname, Needle can be kind, approachable, and supportive towards her friends and teammates. She is also very competitive and often strives to excel in challenges. However, she does have her rude moments: in "The Glistening", she tells Firey to call her "needy", but she slaps and votes for him to be eliminated when he does.
Needle's competitive nature shapes how she faces challenges and interacts with others. She wants to prove her worth to her team, as seen when she sacrifices Coiny to join FreeSmart or sings a lullaby to help her duo win. However, she often feels overlooked and seeks validation, especially within FreeSmart. In "Spore Day", for example, she tries to help the dehydrated caterpillar, but Pencil steps in and insists on handling it herself, emphasizing her role as a "full FreeSmarter".
Despite wanting to fit in, Needle values independence. She makes bold choices to assert control, like teaming with Fries in "Start the Shift" instead of letting herself be swayed by the opinions of the others. She’s determined, but needs to feel recognized and respected for her efforts. Then in "Airplanes in the Night Sky", we see that Needle is done trying to fit in, and is ready to play for herself, as she is determined and in it to win it on her own.
Needle is also kind enough to value most people equally; even people who are disliked by most such as Flower and Spongy, as she cares about them enough to visit them at the So-Haspital when they are on life support, making a "get well soon" card for them and seeing them until they pass on.
When it comes to team dynamics, Needle displays a cooperative and inclusive nature. In "Getting Teardrop to Talk", she suggests that everyone who wants to be on Loser's team could join together, showing her willingness to work with others and her desire to create a harmonious group. However, when Loser cuts her off and repeats her idea, it may indicate that Needle is sometimes overshadowed or not fully heard, despite her good intentions.
Needle is assertive, resourceful, and highly competitive, but she also grows to appreciate teamwork when it matters. She cares deeply for her team and gets frustrated when things don’t go as planned, like in "The Great Goikian Bake-Off" when her leaf trap intended for Two ends up trapping Bottle instead, much to her annoyance. Still, she doesn’t give up and stays determined to help her team.
Her dynamic with Pen in "What’s Up Bell’s String?" adds depth to her character. Their friendship is competitive and filled with rivalry, but also mutual respect. They constantly challenge each other, whether it’s in physical tasks or proving who’s stronger, yet they ultimately work together when necessary. It shows that they recognize each other’s strengths and can set aside their differences to achieve a common goal.
Needle is a sewing needle who hates being called "Needy." Most people call her that name by accident or even say the word for unrelated reasons, but the Announcer does it on purpose.
Needy[sic] is a competitive player and is a faster runner than Firey. This has never been confirmed, but we all know it's true.
Over the years, Needle has had five different voice actors... The most of any character!
You Don't Say!: Needle technically has three eyes.
Abilities[]
Strengths[]
Speed: Needle is on many occasions shown to be incredibly fast compared to the other contestants. In "Barriers and Pitfalls", she was the first to finish the obstacle course. In "Get to the Top in 500 Steps", she finished the race up the stairs almost immediately after the contest started, while the remaining contestants spend the rest of the episode trying to get to the top. In "The Four is Lava", she was able to run from where Four was to grab Coiny and run back to Four before Flower or Naily could even finish.
Strength: Needle is able to slap all of her teammates besides Spongy (she was unable to slap him due to standing on top of him, not lack of strength) out of the Evil Canyon in "No More Snow!". She also balanced Spongy, Coiny, Nickel, Yellow Face, and Bomby on her head while on top of a spike beforehand, though she was unable to do it for long. In "Intruder Alert", she and Coiny are able to tear the spaceships and Pin in half with ease. In "PointyPointyPointy ♫", she lifts an entire pirate ship on Teardrop's Island to crush Evil Leafy. In "Respect to the Wicked", she seems to have no problem pushing the FreeSmart Supervan with Book inside easily, while Pencil struggled to do so. Needle also threw Pencil tons of miles away with ease. Needle was also able to hold the FreeSmart Supervan in her hands with no visible struggle for a long time. In "Airplanes in the Night Sky", she striked Fries after he wedges her to the ground and instantly kills him with a single blow. In "🥚", she also carried a spaceship with ease, while later in the episode, Coiny was shown struggling to even push it. She is also strong enough to penetrate through Naily and Bell in "The Liar Ball You Don't Want".
Sharpness: Needle’s point is sharp enough that it can pose a genuine threat to other objects or creatures. This quality is seen in “Lots of Mud” when Needle, while magnetized, slices straight through a Fish monster, killing it in a single slash. She has also been wielded as a weapon by Barf Bag in “Bottle For Dream Island” to threaten information out of Six.
Durability: Needle is able to survive crashing into her cake which grew into a star in "Bridge Crossing", which ultimately destroyed it.
Heat resistance: Her metal body makes her immune to lava as seen in "I’m the Main Character” and “The Four is Lava”. However, she was killed by Yellow Face's flamethrower in "No More Snow!". This is most likely the flamethrower was hotter than her heat resistance.
Musical talent: While more of a skill, in "PointyPointyPointy ♫", she is shown to have a great singing voice, impressing Puffball and making her and her teammate, Pencil win.
Other: She allows Firey to call her Needy in "BFDI Is Back", yet not counting because of her not slapping him. In "BFDI Is Snack", Firey and Coiny each call her Needy twice. Again, this doesn't count because she doesn't slap them.
Both were eliminated outside of their teams; Ice Cube having merged, and Needle having been UFE alongside a trio in Power of Three.
Both started competing in TPOT with design changes straight out of BFB.
Both have high-pitched voices.
Both were originally voiced by Cary, before starting to speak mostly with reused lines throughout the first 2 seasons due to Cary's puberty making him unable to pull off their voices.
Both were voiced by one-time people after Cary became unable to keep voicing them and before Satomi and Kenzie joined the team, one of them being Keiko Eng or her brother.
Both are the only original contestants who have been consistently voiced by people outside of the Huang twins.
Both were FreeSmarters, being considered alternates of the alliance.
Both had a deal with One and are the only original contestants to have so.

Needle is the first contestant who has been on two teams at once, playing for both W.O.A.H. Bunch and FreeSmart in "Respect to the Wicked".

Needle holds the record for the most combined likes and dislikes received in a single episode at 93,831 votes in total in "Start the Shift".
This is due entirely to the fact that she was up for voting as two separate contestants, giving her twice as many votes.
Needle is the highest ranking contestant who has never won a prize.
She's also the highest ranking contestant who isn't voiced by the Huang Twins.
As of Shattered!, out of all the season 1 contestants who competed in BFDIA, Needle holds the largest placement increase between BFDI and BFDIA, rising from 19th to ≤3rd.
BFB[]
Throughout BFB 11 to 15, Needle is the direct cause of her team winning.
Needle is one of the lowest ranking members of The Losers!, as Loser rejoined the game.
This makes Needle one of the three contestants to be the lowest ranking member of more than one team, along with Dora and Spongy.
Needle is one of the five contestants who technically ranked better in BFB, despite quitting, than in a previous season due to the 40 way tie for 16th place. In Needle’s case, this beats her 19th place in BFDI. The others are Pin, Golf Ball, Donut, and Puffball.
As of her joining the same team as Donut in TPOT, Needle is the third contestant to compete on the same team with every BFDIA contestant at least once, along with Bomby, Spongy, Yellow Face, Golf Ball, and Pencil.
Needle was always the 5th safe when Team8s was up for voting.

Needle's safety got progressively worse by one spot with every TPOT Cake at Stake she was in, as she went from the bottom three, to the bottom 2, to being eliminated.
With Needle eliminated in "Category One", she is the lowest ranking member of Bagged.
This is the third team to have Needle be the lowest ranking member, tying her with Spongy for having this happen the most times.
This is the first time where Needle being the lowest ranking member is due to her actually getting voted off first. In the first two instances, Needle's rank only fell due to Flower rejoining for the Squashy Grapes and Loser rejoining for The Losers!.
She is known for slapping anyone who calls her "Needy", but it is unknown why Needle hates being called that.
Before being sent to the Tiny Loser Chamber, she tried to explain why she didn't like being called "Needy", but the Announcer threw her out to the TLC.
It is possible that Needle hates being called "Needy" because needy can either mean "poor" or "demanding".
It could also be that she is being confused with Needy.
She wasn't called "Needy" once in BFB.
As seen in "The Glistening", she doesn't get angry if she's called "Needley".
The catchphrase "Aw, seriously?" was originally owned by Needle, up until David's entrance in "Reveal Novum". She has said the aforementioned phrase most out of any character, excluding David.
Needle has the most voice actors out of any character, having five, and this is confirmed by the Official Character Guide.
The Official Character Guide also confirms that Needle's second voice actor is different than her other voice actors.
In addition, Needle is the only OG contestant to not still be voiced by Michael or Cary. It may be likely that the reason for this is due to Cary hitting puberty and not being able to still do Needle's voice, which is why from episodes 1-4 of BFDIA, Needle's dialogue is only recycled lines.
Discounting contestants with stick bodies, Needle is the thinnest contestant after Lollipop.
In "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3", when Needle is sweating as Coiny threatens to call her "Needy" 3 times in a row, her sweat is Teardrop's asset.

Needle is the only non-recommended member of The Losers! who doesn't have a plushie.
Before her elimination in "Puzzling Mysteries," Needle had slapped 13 times.
Counting temporary teams, Needle has been on the most teams of any BFDI contestant. She has been on a total of 12 teams, those being:
