The scanner is a machine that was seen in "Barriers and Pitfalls" and "Hurtful!" as a part of both challenges blocking the way to the next part of the challenge.

The scanner is a gray metal door with a zig zag opening that has a round green light on top that can also scan search for items. It lights up and opens the door when detecting a needle after scanning or after a test has been submitted that was correct.

Battle for Dream Island[]
The scanner first appeared in "Barriers and Pitfalls" as the 6th obstacle in the challenge. When a contestant found a needle in the haystack, they were to show it to the scanner, which would open the doors, allowing them to move onto the final obstacle. It was able to be tricked by Needle due to her being a needle making it open the door despite her not finding a needle in the haystack.
In "Hurtful!", the challenge was a mix of all the previous challenges. It appeared in the "Are You Smarter Than a Snowball?" challenge instead of the "Barriers and Pitfalls" challenge like it originally did. When the contestants complete the tests, they turn them into a deposit station and if it's correct the scanner light will flash and open the scanner door. Firey, Flower, and Leafy each passed their tests on their first try, but Bubble failed several times before finally passing with help from Leafy.
Trivia[]
- The scanner is the only object from a specific challenge to not appear within its respective challenge in "Hurtful!".
- Although it does still appear in the challenge in the "Are You Smarter Than a Snowball?" challenge.
- Despite the green light being able to scan for the presence of a needle, it's use in the test portion of the final challenge has the tests entered into a deposit station to check for the answers instead.
