In "Start the Shift", Book arrives at the "Magazine Makeovers" salon in desperate need of a complete restoration, citing her poor condition. However, Spool reveals that they are out of replacement pages, explaining that the high demand from their thriving business has led to the shortage. When Book asks what to do, Mirror suggests visiting the print store downstairs to obtain her own paper, confidently assuring her that she'll be fully restored. Grateful for the advice, Book quickly departs to complete the task. As Book leaves, Spool questions the difficulty of the errand, but Mirror acknowledges the challenge, noting that only the most determined customers survive their rigorous makeovers. She adds a menacing laugh that awkwardly transitions into a cough.
Later, Book returns with the necessary paper, exhausted but unwavering in her resolve. She approaches them and announces her readiness for the makeover. Impressed by her determination, Mirror begins the process with Spool. As they work, Spool inquires about Book's preferred cover design. Book requests a two-toned green and blue design. Spool notes the details and continues the makeover, ensuring the final result matches Book's vision. However, they end up switching the colors on the cover, costing Book the challenge.
In "Airplanes in the Night Sky", Spool and Mirror try to persuade Pin into giving her a new look by saying that their shop has paint jobs and accessories, providing cheap incomprehensible prices compared to Fries' shop, and stating that their film projector is free, which Gelatin snatches from her grip. But the two fail when Fries threatens Pin of drilling her face, grabbing her attention. As a result, their supershop will be closed down for good. A frustrated Spool remarks that they can't just do that, but not until a wrecking ball crashes into the building, cutting to the intro.
