StarburstWatercolor

Starburst Watercolor[1], or simply Starburst[2], is a recurring visual element in the Battle for Dream Island series that Michael and Cary use a lot, featuring artwork created by Pixabay user Prawny, the usage of which is sometimes referred to by jacknjellify as Meltdowns[1]. It has been repeatedly used in Battle for Dream Island Again and Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two. It is typically used in action scenes, to express the emotions of characters, and/or to emphasize urgency.

Another, currently unidentified background similar to the Starburst Watercolor is used in "Bottle For Dream Island", "Launch Party" and "BFB 31".

Trivia[]

  • The episode with the most usages of the Starburst background is "Bottle For Dream Island" with 11 scenes, followed by "Respect to the Wicked" with 10 scenes.
  • The background has been used a total of 62 times.
  • While the aforementioned episodes have the most uses of this background, "Airplanes in the Night Sky" has the most uses of the background in a single scene, at 6 (one per character).
  • The original upload date for the artwork was on July 3, 2017.
    • This technically counts as a fictional anachronism, as the first instance of this (Taste the Sweetness) was from March 1st, 2014; which is 3 years before.
  • Scenes which use the background and depict a character showing extreme anger at another character, typically in the form of a long rant, have been colloquially referred to as "crashouts".
    • This terminology arose after the release of "Seasonal Shift", in which Pencil lashed out at Golf Ball for deeming the protection of the universe more important than the challenge.
    • The term is incredibly controversial within the community, including on this page. Although jacknjellify has used the word officially in a short,[3] they have referred to similar scenes as "meltdowns" in a more recent short,[1] possibly to avoid the term or emphasize the story significance of Pencil's crashout.
    • As of TPOT 18, there has been at least 1 "Crashout" in every episode after TPOT 15. to list them:
    • One could be guaranteed in TPOT 19 due to it being a "dramatic" episode.
    • Stuff before TPOT 15 have also been called "crashouts" after TPOT 15, like Pin's moment at the end of BFDIA 14.
