Teeeeamm swap!!

A Team Swap is a stage in the competition when teams are modified (not counting eliminations, rejoins, or debuts, which modify teams only by removing or adding contestants from the competition). This can occur in a variety of ways, such as members switching teams, or creating new ones, either freely (if allowed), or because the host dictates it.

In Battle for Dream Island, when the Squashy Grapes have twice as many members as the Squishy Cherries, the Announcer dissolves the Squashy Grapes and has its members form two teams, initiating a new stage in the battle. In this new phase, the new elimination system also rearranges the teams.

In Battle for Dream Island Again, contestants are given an opportunity to switch teams before every contest. This can only be done during the time after Cake at Stake ends and before the next contest begins.

In Battle for BFB, following the split of the show after forty contestants quit to join Two's show, the teams from Battle for BFDI are dissolved, and Four makes two new ones out of the remaining fourteen contestants.

In Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two, once the competition reaches the final 25, Two announces a new stage in the game, which begins with a Team Swap. The teams are dissolved and four new teams of six members each are created, leaving one contestant out.

Coverage[]

BFDI[]

In "Puzzling Mysteries", because the TLC has reached its maximum capacity of six people, no more contestants can be eliminated for the time being. Because of this, the team who wins this episode's contest will instead choose one player from the other team to switch to theirs. The Squashy Grapes win and choose Firey to switch teams.

In "Insectophobe's Nightmare", after Blocky rejoins the competition, the Announcer points out how the Squishy Cherries have 5 members, exactly half of the Squashy Grapes' 10. He then announces that the Squashy Grapes will be permanently split into two teams, with Leafy and Rocky choosing them. Leafy, Ice Cube, Snowball, Blocky and Teardrop reform the Squashy Grapes, while Rocky, Golf Ball, Tennis Ball, Firey and Coiny become a new team, Another Name.

From this point onwards, a new stage in the battle begins and the rules change. After each challenge, the teams are ranked based on their performance. The team which places third loses and is up for elimination. During the next episode's Cake at Stake, the two contestants who receive the most votes will leave the losing team. Then, the team that placed first gets to choose one of them into their team, while the other contestant is eliminated. The team that got second place remains unaltered.

In "Crybaby!", Snowball and Teardrop are the bottom two and are expelled from the Squashy Grapes. The Squishy Cherries pick Snowball to join their team and Teardrop is eliminated.

In "Lofty", Rocky and Golf Ball are the bottom two and are expelled from Another Name. The Squishy Cherries pick Rocky to join their team and Golf Ball is eliminated.

In "A Leg Up in the Race", Tennis Ball and Coiny are the bottom two and are expelled from Another Name. The Squashy Grapes pick Tennis Ball to join their team and Coiny is eliminated.

In "Yeah, Who? I Wanna Know", Firey states one more rule—rule four: Players may switch teams if they want before a contest begins. Match immediately heads back to Pencil's team happily. Gelatin goes to the originals team, stating that “their team is stronger”, which causes a chain reaction for every newbie except Donut to go to Pencil's team since it has more members and is, therefore, stronger. The wide-screen format grows even wider to emphasize Donut and Pencil's intense stares at each other. Pencil intervenes by pulling the screen to a portrait size that shows her full body, saying she likes that screen better. Match agrees cheerfully while the others change the screen to their liking. Firey suggests that everyone show their favorite screens. Various screens are shown until Golf Ball urges everyone to stop. Coiny switches teams after Firey is about to slap him. Then everybody urges Pin to switch teams until she finally does so.

In "Get Digging", after Donut's elimination, Pin and Coiny become concerned about the future of their team, now named W.O.A.H. Bunch (Wheel Ooze A Hole Bunch), since they are now its only two members, and realise they need someone to switch to their team. Pin suggests Teardrop, because she hasn't said she hates her. Pin and Coiny then force Teardrop to switch from Team No-Name to theirs and, although Book tries to stop them, she fails, as Coiny pretends to give Teardrop an opportunity to refuse, which she can't take due to her inability to speak.

In "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3", Coiny asks Needle to join W.O.A.H Bunch, or else he'll call her "Needy" 3 times in a row. Needle becomes horrified and hesitant as the screen zooms in on her and rumbles. She then switches to W.O.A.H. Bunch, irritating Fries.

In "Zeeky Boogy Doog", Coiny complains that he is surrounded by pins and needles, to which Pin angrily replies, "You mean a pin and a needle!" Needle agrees and slaps Coiny. He replies that he didn't call her "Needy", but the fact that he said "Needy" causes Needle to slap him again. Coiny gets a bit confused, then he says that he wants 2 more contestants to join W.O.A.H. Bunch, since Teardrop was eliminated, to which Pin agreed. First is Bomby, who doesn't want to join, until Coiny threatens to light his fuse with Firey. Second is Yellow Face, who's very pleased to join his team.

In "Get in the Van", after Cake at Stake ends, Pin asks Nickel if he wants to switch to W.O.A.H. Bunch, but he is hesitant because Coiny is also on the team. Pin doesn't understand, but Coiny explains that if he and Nickel get close together, bad things happen. Pin dismisses this concern as nonsense and pushes Nickel along, effectively making him switch teams. Yellow Face then asks Spongy to join W.O.A.H. Bunch too, who laughs and then agrees without any resistance. Seeing this, Golf Ball becomes worried, as their team keeps losing members to W.O.A.H. Bunch. To stop this, she proposes that all current members of Team No-Name promise to never switch to W.O.A.H. Bunch. She, Tennis Ball, Puffball, Fries, Firey, Gelatin and Rocky all promise, but Pencil refuses to, arguing she wants to have freedom to switch teams in the future. When Golf Ball doesn't allow this, she, along with Ruby, Book and Ice Cube, secedes from the team and forms a new one, FreeSmart, also including Match and Bubble, who are competing unofficially, as Match was just eliminated and should be in the TLC, and Bubble is not an official BFDIA contestant since she was absent (dead) when the voting results for joining were announced.

In "Well Rested", after Puffball is sent to the TLC, Coiny once again asks if anyone wants to switch to W.O.A.H. Bunch. Rocky, breaking his previous promise, nods in agreement, and despite Golf Ball's, Firey's and Gelatin's protests, his fourth nod confirms the switch.

In "Intruder Alert", when FreeSmart is falling from the sky, Tennis Ball spots Ruby holding a piece of Yoylite, which he wants to get ahold of. However, Ruby says that it's a gift exclusively for FreeSmart . Tennis Ball considers switching to FreeSmart, but doesn't want to abandon Golf Ball, so he asks Firey to do it instead as long as he promises to switch back next episode. He agrees but he asks to take Gelatin along since this new team scares him, to which Tennis Ball reluctantly agrees, so Firey and Gelatin abandon Team No-Name and join FreeSmart.

In "Catch These Hands", before the contest begins, Gelatin switches back to Team No-Name, since the Yoylite is now in his Shadeshouse's back yard and he doesn't need FreeSmart anymore as the mission is complete.

In "Taste the Sweetness", to celebrate having reached the final thirteen, Ice Cube makes her ugly face, which Pencil complains about, so she flips upside-down to make her beautiful face. W.O.A.H. Bunch notices it and all its members end up switching to FreeSmart to adore Ice Cube's beautiful face (though Pin was hesitant). Tennis Ball wants to switch too, while Golf Ball opposes this. Tennis Ball doesn't listen to her, and not only does he switch to FreeSmart, he also uses his Swap Token to force Golf Ball to switch too, dissolving Team No-Name. Fries is the only contestant who refuses to join. After such a drastic change, the teams are renamed, with Freesmart becoming The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute, while Fries's new team is given the name of its only member, Fries.

In "Lots of Mud", Golf Ball flips Ice Cube while she's making her beautiful face, resulting in her ugly face, which causes everyone else in The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute to leave the team in disgust, dissolving it. All former members except Ice Cube regroup and form The Bad Face Destruction Institute, though Golf Ball soon leaves them as she doesn't wish to be united to all the "traitors", taking Tennis Ball along with her. Book then notices Ice Cube crying and second-guesses their decision to abandon her. Pencil agrees that they should remain together, so the two of them, along with Ruby (even though she has doubts due to Ice Cube's words of disloyalty the previous episode), go back to Ice Cube and reform FreeSmart, which, after considering different options, they rename Less-Restrained Less-Dumb to signify their evolution. Golf Ball and Tennis Ball form their own team, which, after Golf Ball refuses to provide a name to Puffball Speaker Box, becomes the new Team No-Name. Puffball Speaker Box then asks the remaining members of The Bad Face Destruction Insititute (who are all former W.O.A.H. Bunch members) for a team name. Despite them already having one, Coiny wants a more intense one, which ends up being Water's Open Aperture Hater Bunch, which, ironically, is also abbreviated as W.O.A.H. Bunch. Finally, Fries returns from the forest, and since Puffball Speaker Box doesn't allow him to remain on his own anymore as "it ruins the team dynamic", he asks to join to the team with the least members, so Puffball Speaker Box puts him in Team No-name, to Fries's regret. The teams are thus reverted to their status before the creation of The Beautiful Face Devotion Institute, not considering Spongy's elimination and FreeSmart's new name.

In "Insectophobe's Nightmare 4", after Ice Cube's elimination, Pencil suggests replacing her, so Ruby takes Tennis Ball's Swap Token, though he informs her it's used up. She then asks Flower to fix it, and she complies. Pencil decides to pick Needle to join FreeSmart (which regained its original name during Cake at Stake), so Ruby forces her to switch with the Swap Token, though Needle isn't entirely against the idea. Flower then asks if anyone else wants to switch teams, which Fries decides to do, since Puffball Speaker Box can't stop him anymore, bringing back his solo team.

In "PointyPointyPointy ♫", after the contest is announced, the inhabitants of the TLC inside the LOL make the contestants form pairs, because the bunk bed only has two beds. The pairs formed are: Pin and Coiny, Ruby and Book, Needle and Pencil, Tennis Ball and Nickel, and Bomby and Fries. It is not yet know if these dual teams are only temporary or if the four previous teams have been dissolved.

BFB[]

In "The Escape from Four", Two's intervention ultimately results in the show being split in two and 40 of the remaining 54 contestants to join Two's show. As a result, all eight teams are dissolved. In the next episode, "X Marks the Spot", Four splits the remaining fourteen contestants into two teams, based on whether their colouration is closer to his or to X's. The Four-coloured team (which would go on to become the Have Cots) consists of Leafy, Balloony, Lollipop, Gelatin, Bubble, Ruby and Teardrop. The X-coloured team (which later became the Have Nots) is formed by Spongy, Flower, Taco, Blocky, Loser, Firey and Woody.

Team Swap

In "What's Up Bell's String?", after Bomby and Bell's elimination and mysterious disappearance, the competition has reached the final 25, so Two announces a Team Swap. The current six teams are therefore dissolved, and the contestants must make four new teams with six members each. Two decides to close their eyes and wait until someone says something. One takes advantage of Two not being able to spot them to quickly arrange the contestants to their liking while moving at high speeds so they don't notice their presence. When Pen complains in confusion, Two hears him and locks the teams in since someone said something, giving the contestants no chance to actually make a choice. The new teams are as follows:

Trivia[]

  • Team swaps are very similar to and most likely inspired by the tribe switch twist from "Survivor".
