The Shift is a 2 episode special event where the time traveling powers of the Noctiluca Yoylean-infused Yoylite connected the events of the two-part special "Start the Shift", the 17th episode of Battle for Dream Island Again, and "Seasonal Shift", the 15th episode of Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two. It is likely that the events affected by the shift have been reversed to their original outcomes due to Gaty signing One's deal to reverse most of the changes done and stop the rip in the fabric of spacetime from destroying the universe, though some changes remained, such as Marker being green.
List of events affected[]
TFI (2008)[]
- Income Tax Return Document temporarily disposes of Firey by removing him from the cover of Crying Contest and trapping him in Rope Climb, taking his place throughout the timeline of BFDI.
BFDI[]
- "Bridge Crossing" (May 1, 2010):
- "Vomitaco" (March 1, 2011): Pencil notices Leek's appearance, who then pushes her off, making her fall into the barf.
- The barf bag from the barf bag contest is ripped entirely from the bottom by Team 2, causing barf to leak into the grass.
- "Return of the Hang Glider" (January 1, 2012): Leafy is allowed onto Dream Island by Firey due to the current time's Pencil and Pillow fighting. This event was what caused the tear in space and time to grow so big, it nearly destroyed the universe as the event of Leafy not being let on the island (and subsequently stealing it from Firey) is very important to the timeline and possibly the reason any of the other future seasons occurred.
BFDIA[]
- "Yeah, Who? I Wanna Know" (June 29, 2012): Leafy's chase is temporarily delayed due to Clapboard letting her escape right after catching her.
- "Taste the Sweetness" (March 1, 2014): Shopping Cart slips over one of Pencil's advertisements and ends up hitting a recommended character, causing the recommended characters to fall over one by one and making them scream. In addition, Woody is now competing and gets his team's ice cream stolen by Grassy and Shopping Cart.
BFB (and BFDI Mini)[]
- "Getting Teardrop to Talk" (November 3, 2017): Nickel's chunk is on the top of Gelatin's Stack of Forks. Donut and Bottle notice him and TB.
- "Fortunate Ben" (January 12, 2018): Paper planes are replaced with different objects, and the hosts being Three and Ean.
- "The Escape from Four" (March 24, 2020): Anchor knocks the Earth out of the way, causing Two to land on a different planet; Nine arrives instead and hosts the fifth season.
- "Who Stole Donut's Diary?" (July 24, 2020): Discy steals the Diary, and because of the events of Total Firey Island, ITRD wins BFDI.
- Taco and Ruby are both present in the episode despite both of them being eliminated at this time. Taco was present as Cake at Stake was skipped due to CloudYAY's appearance because Four took the contestants to court before Cake at Stake. Ruby and ITRD disappeared when the FreeSmart SuperVan crashes onto the wall of Yellow Face's warehouse.
- "Climb the Eiffel Tower" (BFDI Mini episode, September 10th, 2020): Pencil punches the barriers and the instructions, leaving BFDI Mini to go widescreen and Boom Mic debuts into BFDI Mini.
- "The Tweested Temple" (October 13, 2020): A scene on TV shows Taco dancing in the temple instead of Flower, suggesting she was eliminated instead of Taco in "Who Stole Donut's Diary?".
TPOT[]
- "You Know Those Buttons Don't Do Anything, Right?" (January 10, 2021): Nickel's chunk was pushed off his face by Needle's point so Tennis Ball and Nickel had to chase after it.
- "Category One" (September 14, 2024): Tennis Ball's Yoylite sample is thrown off to the Hotel by Nickel. It is rediscovered by the Tennis Ball of the current time, and put in his lab for safekeeping.
- "Seasonal Shift" (January 1, 2025): The Yoylite is found by the failed debuters, who accidentally travel back in time, causing the events of the Shift. Marker becomes green and hosts keep changing. Changes to the past created a rip in the space-time continuum and reality-shattering consequences.
Consequences[]
Temporary Consequences[]
Firey Paradox[]

Total Firey Island becomes Total Income Tax Return Document Island.
The Firey Paradox started when Income Tax Return Document kidnapped Firey and replaced him on the cover of Crying Contest, leaving Firey trapped in Rope Climb. This caused Income Tax Return Document to appear every time Firey was supposed to in future competitions. This paradox was fixed when Team 2 replaced Income Tax Return Document with Firey.
Host Paradox[]
The Host Paradox started when the failed debuters scattered into the past after coming into contact with Yoylite, causing the timeline to rapidly change, resulting in several hosts, including Nine, appearing and quickly replacing eachother in the future as the past kept changing. One of the hosts caused by the past being altered was Nine, who became the host of TPOT after Anchor hit the earth with enough force to knock it into another planet, causing Two to drift off course and hit a different planet. Another notable case was of The Announcer continuing to host past the first season. This paradox was fixed due to contestants fixing the past, as well as One's influence.
Brain Fog[]
Brain fog refers to all characters, besides Black Hole, forgetting the original timeline as the timeline changing around them. Black Hole was left unaffected due to his strong gravitational pull on space-time. This problem was fixed when One used the Yoylite's powers to restore all their memories of the original timeline.
CloudYAY Stranded[]
As a result of CloudYay's infighting as well as One draining the power of the Yoylite, CloudYAY was left stranded in the past. This was fixed when One restored the original timeline, bringing CloudYAY back to the present day.
Leafy Enters Dream Island[]
Due to CloudYAY being stranded, they mess with time, causing Firey to let Leafy into Dream Island. This was fixed when One restored the original timeline, bringing CloudYAY back to the present day.
Other[]
Other temporary consequences include the Hotel never being created and staying as just a pair of bathrooms, Taco not being eliminated in BFB 22, Ean and Vrrrpt becoming the 27th and 28th letters of the alphabet respectively, the early BFDI art styles continuing, the Paper Planes being replaced with various other flying objects, and more brief changes such as Pin never regaining her limbs or TPOT taking place in Davidland.
Permanent Consequences[]
Yoylite Displacement[]
As a result of The Shift, a piece of Yoylite was displaced from 2015 to 2024, this piece of Yoylite is both the cause of The Shift, while also being a consequence of it. In 2025, it was broken into several shards by Ten and had it's power drained by One.
Color Shift[]
The Color Shift refers to Marker's permanent appearance change, changing from a purple marker to a green marker known as "Marker the Green". It is unknown what specifically happened in the timeline to make this change happen, but it was not reversed by One.
Crack in Spacetime[]

The crack in spacetime
A crack in spacetime began forming as an result of the timeline rapidly changing. Due to the small, permanent changes to the timeline, this crack in spacetime persists to the present, with Black Hole having the tend to it to make sure it doesn't grow.
Event chronology[]
Due to the contestants travelling through time, several events now happen earlier or later than they did in the original timeline, or happen when they didn't happen at all originally. These include some failed debuters meeting some of the cast early, various things happening or characters dying either before they're supposed to or when they're not supposed to temporarily, some challenges taking longer than they did in the original timeline, a crater being left from Anchor's landing, Death P.A.C.T. meeting their future selves, Clapboard nearly being executed, and more. These events all resulted in the timeline being changed in subtle yet noticeable ways, many of these changes were caused by a majority of CloudYAY focusing on the challenge rather than minimizing damage to the timeline.
